Depends where you lived.
When I lived in the city we had multiple people knocking a day. I gave $1-2.

I live upstate and it hardly happens here. So now I give $5-10

Nothing I don't have cash on hand anymore, I use apps and debit cards. I just give big donations to specific causes.

I give $18 bc I’m embarrassed to give less—my parents were wealthy growing up and wrote big checks. But we’re poor. My husband gives less. Our rav says we’re not even Chayav maaiser.

Between $5-10

1-10 should be broken down I think, it’s a range.

We’re very tight. I don’t always give as we have multiple people almost daily. My husband feels bad to turn away so he always give $1.

To be honest, if my husband is not home, I don’t answer the door. Even/especially if they aggressively knock.
Even when he is home, we don’t always answer but if my husband knows someone came knocking and we didn’t answer, he’ll give extra in shul the next day.

I give $1-2 typically. When we have tzedaka $ I would much rather give to organizations than individuals

I just gave $20 the other day and now another two showed up and gave them the same but I definitely can't keep that up. Not use to them knocking.

I know someone who gave a quarter to a collector saying I really can't afford anything right now but I want to be part of this mitzvah.

My husband used to $50-$100 unless someone had a real sob story.
One collector came and my husband gave him over $1000. Then he cried that it wasn't enough.
Came back the next day to me who gave him ANOTHER $125 and he yelled for my husband who gave him again

This year he came back for more money
I went BALLISTIC
I screamed at my husband to not give him another dime.
We don't have any money anymore and I sure as heck didn't wanna give him another huge donation. Now I give nothing and my husband gives like $20. I really am working on overcoming the anger in my heart towards this guy who I hope at least wasn't a thief.

My father told us to give $20 from now on lol

Adding-we don't live in a huge house or look rich at all and HAH were not rich, my husband is just very generous BH I'm less so
