how do I know if this is a concern? he has such a hard time actually getting food into his stomach.
he seems to love food; he grabs it when hes sees it and tries stuffing it into his mouth but most of it does not get into his stomach, either it never fully makes it to his mouth or it ends up dribbling out in his bib or he pulls it out of his mouth
when I try spoon feeding him, he eats a few spoonfuls and then turns his head away.
he is really subsisting right now on 90% formula
I asked the pediatrician and she didnt seeem too concerned, she said some babies are like that.
he is in the 16th percentile for weight, and very tall so I really dont think hes eating enough
how do I know whats normal
ETA he was check for a tongue tie a few times when he was littler and it didnt seem to be an issue

That age they still dont need to eat much, keep offering different types of foods, textures and sizes throught out the day so that he gets use to it.
As long as he is drinking his formula its ok

Food before 1 is just for fun- in terms of nutrition. They should still be exposed to it. Real foods and all flavors. But yes most nutrition should be milk or formula.

I wrote similar posts when my baby was 8 months and then 10 months.
I introduced solids blw-ish style at 5.5 months and 5 months later baby was still mostly playing. Loved to play and experiment but hardly swallowed. 99% landed on the floor. Baby was never a great nurser and also had a hidden tongue tie that was caught late so I was worried there may be some oral aversion or oral motor delays.
What do you know, one day at around 12 months baby finally started swallowing foods.
She's now 13.5 months and not eating huge quantities, but she does eat, is adding foods to her repertoire and slowly increasing the volume. She still nurses a lot which is probably why she's not very hungry but at least I know she has the skills so that when I'm ready to cut back hopefully she'll pick up nicely.

some kids it takes time.
I remember jumping for joy when my baby took her first bit of egg and swallowed it without gagging or taking it out the mouth. The day before she gagged 3 times on one piece of egg and I was thinking the same as you - if she cant do it now what will be the difference when she is one... just like when they cant stand without holding one day and the next day they manage it. you will be suprised how much they will change in the next 1.5 months before their birthday.

Nah every day they grow bigger and more capable. A lot will happen in 1.5 months.

My 11 month old does not really eat anything yet. She is fully breastfed. Why is that concerning?

Although this ditty was commonplace for years and in the past believed, this is factually inaccurate. The bulk of a babies nutrition comes from formula or breastmilk before one but after 6 months food has its place especially for iron sources. This is particularly important for breastfed babies.

She should be having 3 meals a day at 11 months. In addition to the breastfeeding being the main source of nutrition until 1.

Op, keep on trying and offering food.
It’s a process but the constant exposure makes all the difference.
Let baby make a mess and experiment with different types of foods. He will be eating before too long. Good luck.

I wouldn't worry. Every kid's different. My last baby wouldn't eat any thing except one specific flavored pouch of baby food. I had it on repeat order. She LOVED nursing though. Eventually she started to eat and believe it or not she is three now and one of my best eaters.
My next one is 7 months old. He's been grabbing food since he's 3 months or before. He loves loves loves to eat bh. He eats anything his hands could get on to. He is also ttly nursing but eating tons as well.
One of my other kids. I didn't start salads till the year and they were fine also.

Are you saying breastmilk hashem created is less than perfect? This is just nonsense pushed to make money off breastfed babies. They can absolutely live only on breastmilk.
