If you have a client who cannot pay for an expensive item that she needs, would you like to know so that you can offer a discount? Would you offer a discount? Are there specific situations where you would try to work with the customer, or is the personal situation of the customer irrelevant?
As a consumer, would you ask for a discount if you are in a difficult situation? Would you share the details of your situation? Or do you think it's not relevant/ not fair to share your personal situation with the seller?

Is it an essential item or a luxury. That is the first question here

So when we say “need”, what kind of product are we discussing? Medical device? Fridge? Expensive brand of shoes?
If it’s a real need, not a “fitting in need”, I would speak to my Rav about having some of my masser set aside for discounts for those who need it. Let the rabbinim in town know, and they’ll direct the people who really need it to you and let you know discreetly.

Hmm... I have asked for sibling discounts in the past for a class or something but also like the above poster is it a NEED or a WANT? I do photography on the side and I don't give discounts. There are way cheaper photographers and I tell people I wouldn't pay my own price so I understand if I am not within their budget.

That’s so strange. If you don’t feel the price is justified why should others? Why would you charge it then?

Doesn't mean she doesn't think it's justified. It means she considers her product a luxury and would not spend that much on a luxury.

I ask if there's a discount available. Many times a store will offer a discount just because.
The only time my dh doesn't allow me to ask for a discount if it means bringing in his learning. He says that you are not supposed to take your Torah learning and gain from it in that way. So, I many times pay more because I don't want to ask for a discount due to the fact that my dh learns bh. It is tempting sometimes, it's just against his beliefs from what he learned about it and I won't do it.

This is correct. I believe I offer more than the cheaper photographers both in skill and experience. I do understand though that my prices are high when people have other financial priorities.

As a fellow photographer I think it ruins it for clients. It doesn’t come across the way you think it should. But because I appreciate what I sell I actually save up and spend even more than I charge on my family pictures. I feel like if you want to sell it you need to appreciate it too. Just my experience and thoughts.
