You can still search. Anything in a public forum can be searched using "username site:imamother.com" to see all of those posts. That's usually enough data for anyone with nefarious intentions.
For that reason I think post history should come back. It has benefits and those who are planning on doing nasty stuff can do it anyhow.
Maybe it should be a privilege, like posting in the politics forum. But I don't like that it is blocked altogether.

Depends on the name. Like if a username is red or bread it won’t work. I have a generic username and it is worthless.

This might be a good idea. There are many posters who use their screen name a lot but never write anything identifying. There's nothing to figure out if looking thru their posts other than appreciating their contributions. Others can choose to turn it off themselves.

People connect dots. She's a physical therapist + she's nursing + she lives in Boro Park + that sounds like how she talks! |
That actually once happened to a poster on here. I forget if it was shared on this site or Reddit. Someone connected a lot of dots. Some shared commonly. But history shared a ton of random details I feel like it happened more then once that a user was revealed, or threatened to be. One member I know left over this.

Note - this is not an official poll or a voting situation. Yael did not ask for this input, and as such, there are no “qualifications” as to who can give input in this thread.
Having said that, the history being removed was something that was highly requested for a long time and the benefits of removing the history, greatly outweigh the benefits of having it.

It's not only about posting identifying details or connecting dots.
I think it's possible to appreciate a poster who generally uses their screenname without being able to go back and pass judgement on what they previously said.
I'm also curious, what are the benefits of having poster history? I can't think of any.

Please do not bring it back. |
I would like it back. BUT If it is brought back, I think it's only right and ethical that it wouldn't include any posts written during the timeframe when it was hidden. Otherwise I think it's very unfair to those who posted during this time. They may have posted things they otherwise wouldn't have.

I think this would be a perfect solution. Even just 3 months. 3/6 months provides enough context on a poster without giving away their identity.
Also, my opinions may have changed over the past 6 years, but they probably haven't since 6 months ago.
Watergirl, can this be an option?

You’d have to ask Yael.

No.
I inadvertantly figured out someone was my sister in law. I was looking at someones history, and noticed a few random, totally parve comments she had dropped over multiple posts, that together, absolutely pointed to her being my sister in law.
You dont realize how little things here and there build a story of who you are

Lol to be fair, three women on here think they are my ex-sister in law. We are not as unique as we think we are.

What is the purpose of having this feature? Other than allowing people to figure out more about the poster?

I do wish the advanced search allowed us to search our own history.
Like if I posted a cookie recipe years ago I’d like do an advanced search but only in my username posts. |
I've been saying this ever since poster history was removed. I would want it back up, but if not, at least optimize other search options including PMs and my own posting history.

Exactly this. I sometimes post under my username now, I would never ever post with my username if there was a history. It’s so easy to figure people out

It is absolutely most definitely her.
And I feel sorry that I realized.

I think that's probably just something that's hard to implement given how the site software is programmed.
