I’m Iyh having a boy and will most likely end up giving the name Yossi. Question is how to write it on the birth certificate. I know many people stopped giving English names but I don’t want him to have a hard time at the doctors office or elsewhere. Thank you

I don't think he will have a hard time with Yossi, that's pretty easy to pronounce even if it's the first time you hear of the name. You could go for somewhere in the middle and name him Yosef?
Personally, I like having English names (I have one myself) so I would go for Joseph, but it's not my son, and you seem to prefer Hebrew name. Do what you prefer. I don't think he'll have any problems whatsoever any way, both versions are easy.

I'd right Yosef, but I don't care if people have trouble pronouncing it.

Since you do I'd go with Joseph.

my son is Yosef. no one has a hard time saying it.
for anything secular, we pronounce it exactly as it sounds Yo-sehf
(we pronounce it differently at home)

Yossi is not a name it is a nickname. Your child will not be named "yossi'.
"Yaamod yossi ben..."- will never be your child's name
I think it's very strange when people put a nickname on legal documents!

Yosef (spelled this way) is actually not a rare name. It's used in a few different cultures.

I also think it's weird for his legal name to be Yossi. Unless his Jewish legal name really is Yossi, not Yosef

I just had my baby boy Yosef also, on the birth certificate we did joseph. My husband was debating this also but I told him its much easier when he has an english name, then we were really deciding between joseph and joey for the birth certificate

English names are just easier on the phone also. Not just doctor but insurances and other appointments that need his legal name.

I would have given all my kids English names if I would have realized earlier that it would have made things easier in some ways

To them they are their Jewish names. That’s what matters.

I wouldn't be so sure yossi sticks as a nickname? So I'd want a real name on the certificate. I did Joseph for my son and we call him yosef

I have a Pinchas and that name non Jews would have a hard time pronouncing so we put his nickname Pinny on the birth certificate. But in your case I’d probably put Yosef.

I like English for the legal name, it just makes everything easier. We did it for my son

I proudly use their Hebrew names. It’s much easier to just have one name to remember, and we exist the world can say our names.

It doesn’t really matter that much. I used to obsess over what to write on the birth certificate. It really doesn’t matter that much.

I'm a big fan of making it very clear to our kids that we consider their Jewish identity their first and primary identity in every single way. So we put Jewish names very proudly on the birth certificate, always.

I wouldn't put a nickname on a birth certificate. What if the kid grows up and decides he doesn't want to be known by his nickname anymore?
