If you name your kid Chaim Zanvil, you could also consider using a nickname of Shmuel, because Zanvil is a Yiddish variation on the Hebrew name Shmuel.
I know quite a few people whose "Hebrew" names are really Yiddish names, and instead go by their legal names which are the Hebrew equivalents.
But more practically speaking, if you really don't like Chaim Zanvil, talk it over with your husband and try to get him to agree to use your grandfather's name instead.

You can do whatever u want and use any nickname you like. Just be prepared for people’s comments/judgements. Been on the receiving side of them but it’s still worth it for me to call my kids by nicknames I like 🤷♀️
