We live in a neighborhood with very few kids. Ds7 is friends with the only 2 boys his age. Two days ago he came home after them and he wanted to play with them (they were outside) and they didn’t let. They were also being mean to my younger dd. I went out with him and told them that they have to play nicely all the time, not just sometimes (because one of them can be really mean depending on his mood). I went home and my kids came home few minutes later saying they’re still not letting them play. It’s two days later and they’re still ignoring dc and going inside when they see them approaching.
Should I say something to the mother? Wait this out?
The “ringleader” isn’t the best influence for my son and can sometimes be so mean to my son but there really are no other options for them so I’m unsure about how to deal with this.

I’d make plans with the nicer boys mom for the boys do activity together indoors first so they start off together. And leave the mean boy out.

I tried that and as soon as he noticed the other boy came home from yeshiva he left my son. My heart is breaking.

Is there a specific reason the other boy is being mean to your son? Maybe it's something that can be resolved?

No he’s just not a nice kid. Doesn’t have good social skills.

can you make playdates for your son with boys from his class?

So why would you want your son to be exposed to that? Can you set up playdates with his classmates for after school?

Most parents don’t want to drive to our neighborhood because we’re pretty far out. I don’t mind taking him but I feel bad asking other people to host my son on a school night. I’m also nervous about weekends… he needs neighbor friends , not just school friends. He only has one sibling so there’s not much happening here.
