I baked a banana cake and saw inside the cake a plastic fork I used to mix the cake with. Can I still use the cake now? I took the fork out.

I wouldn't use it. Baked plastic in your cake doesn't sound too healthy.

I would cut around that a margin of like a half inch. I can't imagine the whole cake was ruined.

The fumes in the closed oven from the plastic cooking would affect the whole cake.

Thanks I ended up making a new one. And made sure the fork ended up in the garbage this time. Dh thinks the cake is still fine, he doesn't understand what the problem with it is. But won't take a chance.

Next time use a stainless steel fork and then you won't ruin the cake.

In cases like this, I always ask myself, if someone offered to pay me 5$ (or however much the spoilt food is worth) for eating this in front of him, would I?
The answer is of course, not!
I would not eat a cake with melted plastic or moldy bread or a piece of fish that fell on the floor for 5$.

Do you ever eat at a restaurant? How do you trust what goes on in the kitchen? Many times I pick up food off the floor and use it.

I dont have the energy to be concerned about microplastics sorry. I would cut around it and not bake a whole new cake but thats the minority opinion. You shouldnt eat baked plastic but also I just dont care enough to care.
