My toddler started playgroup in September and every day he comes home very dirty. Usually its dried out snot all over his face and hands. Sometimes dirty from lunch. At home my toddler will come to me to wipe his nose when it's running. But apparently at playgroup he's wiping with his hands.
The past year he's been to an amazing babysitter who would make sure he's clean and presentable before I came for pickup. She brushed his hair, cleaned his face etc.
It really bothers me that he comes home like this. Should I say something? How much can I expect from the morahs? (Its a group of 11 kids 2 morahs) I know brushing hair is not expected. But what about dirty face/hands ?

I sent my kids with tissues and told them to take it from their bag to wipe their own nose. Also teach him to go to the sink post lunch and ask someone to turn it on.

Good idea to teach him to go to sink.
Tissues he doesn't know how to use properly. We're trying but he more or less eats it. He's 20 months

Would love to hear input from others who run a playgroup if it's normal request to ask that they clean my kid before pickup?

IDK about before pickup specifically but I think it's reasonable for hands to be cleaned after eating for sure
And face with tons of snot, yes teachers should see that and wipe
Obvs maybe sometimes it just happened and they missed but it shouldn't be an accumulation form the whole day

The moros all clean after lunch, is she a new morah? A kid with a constantly runny nose might still be snotty but you shouldn't be seeing any remnants of lunch.

Even when my kids were in the thick of cold season and dealing with running noses the whole day, they never came home like that. Anything under 3 and ESPECIALLY under 2 is still little enough that they don't know how to use a tissue right, I would expect the Morah to be keeping an eye on them and wiping their noses as needed. For sure if it gets all over like that she should be washing them off periodically.

Does your child really have copious amounts of mucus from his nose every single day? You should really look into what’s causing that

I'm a morah for 1 year olds. We clean their hands and face after meal times. We would never send home a baby with dirty hands and face. These days we are constantly wiping their noses. Sometimes a parent comes to pick up and says "oh let's get a tissue for your runny nose"
We reply "we've been wiping his nose all day"
I HOPE they believe us!

That's disgusting and negligent!
Located in bp. I've only had wonderful experiences with cleanliness at babysitter playgroup day care and pre nursery. On many occasions I've seen children's faces cleaned. Teachers with wipes and wet paper towels at hands lovingly cleaning faces

I consider it a bad sign. I’ve experienced that and was Among the reasons I left there. My current daycare is nothing like that.

I HOPE they believe us! | You can tell if they've been wiped and it's run recently. Old snot gets crusty and nasty.

Same situation! My daughter comes home everyday with huge green boogers !(sorry I know that’s gross ) it really bothers me ! When I worked in a preschool by pack up time we walked around with wipes and fixed the girls ponytails . I was also wondering if I should say something but it’s not my type . My daughter is 3 but 20 month old should for sure not get a tissue himself !

I am in the same situation. My 2 year old does have often a runny noise. HE comes home so dirty by his nose. Today was really terrible. I was all hard and crusty under his nose, under his mouth, in the side of his nose and the side of his mouth. It looked like he took his hand and tried wiping it himself. I am so upset. It looks like the teachers refuse to wipe his nose. What should I do?
He is really happy in playgroup.

My kid loves it there. No it's not a new group, they've been running it several years. I'm not worried of neglect it seems well run. It just seems like they don't feel it's their responsibility to clean snot. Lunch is mostly washed off but he can have ketchup / yogurt stains on his face.
My kid is not bothered walking around all day this way. I just really want when I pickup he should be somewhat cleaned up. I'm so embarrassed to walk on the streets this way. Tissues at that point is not enough, we need warm water to dissolve the crusted up snot.
I would like to bring it up to them but not sure how they'll receive it.

I've said things at pickup.
"Let's clean up your face, morah X where is the sink?"
"Oops we need a tissue for DS"
But they don't even flinch.

My daughter's playgroup teacher for ages 2+ so I'm not sure it'll work for younger, taught them how to wipe their faces with a baby wipe. My daughter is 2.5 and tells me they wipe their faces after lunch and again after snack which is right before they leave. It's not always perfect but it's presentable. Maybe try teaching him with a wipe and see how it goes
