I had that once with an onion, I took the peel off and there was this tiny white worm under it crawling around on the onion. Basically wash everything well before using.

Pretty sure there is an opinion that holds that cauliflower is a birya like an apple. A worm that is born in an apple isn’t considered to be a problem. The bugs born in the cauliflower too then aren’t a problem

The bugs are not born in the cauliflower.

Spin off but WHAT?! I never knew I had to check fresh garlic. What am I looking for?

You don’t have to check. Just peel and rinse. I was told they wash right off.

Where I live, I can buy hydroponic cauliflower with a badatz hechsher assuring that it's bug free. Just rinse and enjoy.

I haven't tried it - I'm not a fan of cauliflower - but just know that it exists

No it doesn't!!! The CRC says to discard the 4 outer layers and then each individual piece under those 4 layers has to be rinsed thoroughly front and back. No way you can roast whole wedges with those guidelines. https://consumer.crckosher.org.....bles/

Thank you! Good to know

No, please don't go by what she said. She quoted the CRC incorrectly! FWIW, I'm part of the CRC staff family.
This is the CRC position on cabbage: https://consumer.crckosher.org.....bles/
(Discard the first 4 layers and then wash each piece, front and back, under a stream of water.)

I read in a reputable kashrus agencies guidelines that I can take a handful if triple rinsed leafy greens (baby spinach, garden mix, etc) check that Handful and if it’s bug free I can consider the rest clean.
Well, I did that and enjoyed a half a lb of the spring garden mix.
Today I took it out again and was about to have some salad and Hashem made me look. I found some tiny six legged creatures.
How do I process that?
I trust this agency for many things as most of you do as well. Not sure how to proceed….

The CRC doesn't say that, here's what it says:

Remove outer 4 leaves, and rinse the remaining leaves thoroughly (front and back) under a stream of water

All leaves need to be separated to check according to the CRC.

Speak to your Rabbi. This is a very serious matter.
AFAIK the method of checking only a sample (when you have very large amounts) is only applicable when the item is generally not prone to infestation. AFAIK leafy green items which are prone to infestation all of the amount needs to be checked, not just a sample.

You need to wash leafy vegetables like this:
Fill up a large pot with water, add a little dish washing liquid. Put in your greens and slosh around, leave for a few minutes. Rinse off, even better if you take a sponge and wipe down the leaves. Then check them.

Are you sure it's only rinse and enjoy? AFAIK all green hydrophobic bug free produce must be soaked in soapy water for three minutes and then washed off under a strong stream of water.

Spinach is NOT possible to check, the worms create tunnels within the leaves, you can see the tunnels if you hold it up to the light. Baby spinach can be checked.
Our Rav also holds that it's not possible to check cauliflower. He has done alot of research and is very knowledgeable. Google and watch some videos of non Jews removing insects from cauliflowers and you will not want to eat it.

And it doesn't say "חובה להפריד את העלים" ? That's amazing I've never seen that will have to look out for it.

I always wonder how people use basil. when you do this with basil it tastes soap and weird. Basil needs to be used fresh without even being rinsed for a decent flavor.

Just stick with bananas and cucumbers and you’re ok.
Until.
