My baby just turned one and I really need to stop breastfeeding. The problem is he’s allergic to many foods, including dairy and nuts. So I started giving him soy milk but it’s been giving him diarrhea. Now what do I do 😩 he hardly eats anything. Whatever he’s not allergic to he doesn’t like. I need to get more calories in him. He actually liked the soy milk that I gave him but now that I stopped that he wants to breastfeed more. He’s hungry but hardly eats solids. When I pick him up from the babysitter she says he just nibbled at his lunch. Is there any other “milk” that I can give him that’s nutritious? I thought of buying amino acid based formula but it’s so expensive

Don’t stop breast feeding. Had this with a DC. Basically, I went on a diet, as if it was Pesach. Ate only products without soy, ketchup, tuna, Mayo etc...I found kosher l' pesach stuff. My child had bloody diarrhea without it.

Then there's Neocate formula, if you need to stop nursing. Worked also. Child had this until they eventually grew out of it at maybe age 4 or so.

What about actual foods? Did he start learning how to eat them? Soy milk isn't the just important thing in the big picture

I really need to stop nursing for multiple reasons. And he’s over 1 already. Neocate is very expensive. Would insurance cover it for a baby over age 1? I have Fidelis

I’m trying. Whatever he’s not allergic to I offer him. He’s very picky. He is definitely not eating full meals yet

Try oat milk. Or rice milk. Just make sure they are fortified with vitamins or they aren’t so nutritious

Agreed w rice or oatmilk.
But my ped always Said food is the best source of nutrition by this age. Bottle was more to pacify/put baby to sleep. Give healthy nutritious food. Ps I know it's hard w allergies trust me. My kids have been allergic to dairy, Chicken, eggs, and some vegetables. I had to think out of the box but bh we managed it. And our kids still have a very mature palate and will eat some things like fish and lamb while other kids definitely wouldn't lol

I thought oat and rice milk aren’t nutritious. Do you have a specific brand to recommend that’s fortified with vitamins?

Edit- I just did a quick google search
“unsweetened soy milk is the healthiest. It is the most nutrient dense with the highest protein. Oat milk is the least healthy. It has the most carbs and calories, most of them empty calories from sugar.”

Maybe I should just continue with the soy milk? It wasn’t giving him full blown liquid diarrhea, more like loose stools that smelled really bad

I'm not familiar with allergies. However, I just wanted to point out that a child does not need a milk substitute or even milk. It's more important that they get food. Try to feed them but they're allowed to have. Maybe we can help you come up with ideas that he'll eat.

Right I know this, but I need to give him something in the meantime until he eats better and also I need to give him a bottle to transition away from nursing.
I’m open to food ideas. He’s allergic to milk, eggs, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, mustard, peaches, kiwi

Also keep offering the foods he doesn't touch with foods he will eat. Those are "safe foods" for him and it will help him get used to new foods when together
