I keep seeing recipes on Kosher Dot Com and the like for whole roasted cauliflower. How does that work with checking for bugs? All instructions always say separate the florets. I would love to know.

It's not! There's no way to check whole cauliflower, same goes for sliced roasted cabbage. Looks delicious but can't be checked properly!

Many times I see things that aren’t kosher in the Jewish magazines . Like strawberries with the green thing on top , whole asparagus( they don’t sell it frozen whole ) and whole mini peppers ( you need to cut the top off now )!

Wow very eye opening, people must be duped into thinking it’s kosher. That’s a real problem.

Normally if you look, there is a little note somewhere that the photos are for illustrative purposes only, and people should consult with their own Rav about the use of questionable items.

None of these companies sell a "whole" cauliflower - they can't. It wouldn't be kosher.

A lot of recipes actually call for ingredients, which when checking with major kashrus agencies, are not recommended in any form.

I feel like I used to see notes about kashrus more in the past. Not so often now.

It's not a whole head of cauliflower though.

Same idea that Jewish company’s show Jewish clothing with the models wearing skirts way above the knee, like why are we promoting that this is what looks good?? it’s completely assur and is tsnious ladies are made to feel less then! The Jewish websites have a responsibility to show what kosher is!

Could be. I haven't been buying magazines so much lately.

It is possible to clean strawberries with the leaves attached, it's just much simpler to remove. I know that the hashgacha in my neighborhood that everyone uses does this. it's usually for a very fancy platter with a small number of whole strawberries as decoration
And the kashrus guidelines that I follow say that peppers are not currently an issue, but I'd be happy to know if that's an issue.

What about whole cabbage heads? I see many recipes of sliced purple cabbage I would love to try, how do you check that?

It really isn’t right that the magazines do this. We buy kosher mags assuming the recipes will be greared to us. I really don’t understand why they prioritize esthetics over kashrut

Let's just say the real answer, there's a lot of people who don't care about bugs.

CRC says you only need to remove the first 4 leaves to check.
