I use a “fancy” bag from a “fancy” store just because it’s sturdier. Not designer at all. I like the black hard plastic Meli bags. If I would use a plain grocery bag it would not survive the trip to shul and my things would fall out…..

If you resell them.
Or you can resell the packaging alone

Yes, I've sold a few tiffany peices and definitely got more because I had box, cotton thingy, ribbon and bag...

This was a thingy back when I was elementary school - 2000s lol
I like that they're shaped - my tehillim, machzor waterbottle stand "straight" and it doesn't make crinkly noises when you take something out of it.
But now everyone brings from the Jewish stores that have the reusable bags... not necessaraly Hermes, Prada etc...

and classier than a shopping bag so it's nicer to bring into a shul.
I don't feel right bringing a plastic bag into shul.

The bag I use depends on the volume of things I'm bringing. I have one dedicated bag which is a simple drawstring number that was a souvenir of Jerusalem. If that doesn't suit, I use one of my many reusable tote bags. If I had no such bags, I would use any ordinary shopping bag. I would NOT use a shopping bag from a prestigious vendor. That's just plain ostentation.

In one particular shul in my neighborhood I see people sporting standard tote bags that they use specifically for Shabbos and chaggim. It’s their “shul bag” looks almost like a pool bag.

I definitely see this but as someone who has never shopped in high end stores I am the person who brings a rustling grocery bag. If we are going straight to s/o for a meal or I bring a machzor then I have a plain white cotton tote bag for shul.
My mil brings a fancy bag from an aesthetic surgeon - she once gave it to me to carry home for her and I was pretty embarrassed 😳

Noone wants a plastic crinkly bag so that everyone turns when you need a tissue.
Designer bag specifically idk, perhaps the better stores are the ones that give out better bags.

Don’t go to shul now but when I did we all took plastic grocery bags. Never saw a designer one. We could only carry on Yom tov though. This was in Brooklyn. Curious which places use these designer bags?

My middle school dd and her friends discovered that Lululemon stores give you a bag if you ask even if you don't buy anything. So every time they are in the mall they stop there and ask for a bag. They take those bags to shul, or to school on Friday when they don't bring a backpack..my shul is full of Lululemon bags .also fame bags probably because fame has very sturdy bags

Yes, it’s like this in my shul mostly on rosh hashana and Yom Kippur.
Lots of bags from women’s clothing shops if the bags are nice and practical. Fame bags, polka dot…. Also bags from shops in the mall like lulu lemon, or bags from wig companies.
One year my daughter who was young at the time got the hang of it and was looking for a “nice “ bag on Yom Kippur for her sweater. She almost left the house with a bag from a lingerie shop! I told her she couldn’t come to shul with that bag and she said that this was the type people bring. I gently explained that it also depends which store it’s from.
So yes, it’s a thing by us too. And it’s funny actually. It’s like a pocketbook for shabbos!

Yes, exactly this! We have a few Lululemon bags my DD got for free and some Fame bags from our last trip to NY. These bags are thick, sturdy and just the right size.

Okay, get the tomatoes ready-
We’ve already blown it in our schools, but honestly I’m so saddened that our precious batei mikdash meat have also become places for one-upmanship and judgement for those who can’t play the game, whether for financial reasons or just because they’re not buying into to the ultimate chitzoniyus.
Is nothing sacred anymore?
How about we just focus on our tefilos?
Ready, aim, fire.
