I would allow my older vaccinated child to go over to the house of the unvaccinated child, if everyone is healthy and had no recent exposures. I would allow the unvaccinated child to come over and play outside only with my older vaccinated child. I would not allow the unvaccinated child to play in my house as long as the baby is young.
FYI, my baby who was vaccinated against whooping cough, but too young to have received all doses, got whooping cough at an in-home daycare from the babysitter's preschooler, as it was going around the preschool because a bunch of kids weren't vaccinated. By the time we knew, my baby had caught it. My baby had a thankfully relatively "mild" case (which was still miserable weeks of coughing and wheezing) because she was thankfully partially vaccinated , and my oldest child and I both caught whooping cough in the form of a really bad cough/cold and some wheezing for me, because we are vaccinated but our last vaccines were not the most recent just because of our age and the age of vaccines (especially for me - I couldn't get the vaccine again due to a previous severe reaction). So basically, an unvaccinated preschooler gave my baby and half of the rest of us whooping cough.

Do tou ask every parent for their child’s vaccination records? My younger kids are not vaccinated and are in school in a state where I easily have an exemption. No one knows…

I would never send to a school that doesn’t require it so yeah I would know. I also find those who are unvaccinated are pretty vocal about it.

Actually many non vaccinators are very quiet about it for the reason of this thread.

I asked my pediatrician. He said there’s no outbreak now where we live so he doesn’t feel I have to keep my baby away from anyone unvaccinated but it’s not a bad idea to keep the baby away until around 18 months when all the vaccines should be affective.

And I know the original grandparents comment wasn’t meant kindly but it does have some validity. My parents got a tdap booster when my older sibling asked them too. And they checked their titers when there was a measles outbreak and one got an MMR at that point since their results showed low/no immunity.

I dont know where you live but if you live in a state where getting an exemption is very easy and totally legal, youre in for a big surprise 😂. And I and many others are not vocal at all…

You are all assuming that unvaccinated kids walk around with every sickness out there

Im laughing because people dont realize that they are CONSTANTLY around unvaccinated people. Im 40 years old, I havent received a vaccine since I turned 12.

Exactly. I don’t vaccinate but I’m not vocal about it at all so you’d never know

We do realize this we are just very careful where we take our newborns

This exactly. Some of us take plenty of extra precautions to keep our infants safe. In general I don't take my newborn out much especially during certain seasons and only allow people around them who are vaccinated, and feeling well. No problem socializing more once the kids are bigger

If there was an outbreak of soemthibg I'd be careful but otherwise it's silly. Just going to the shopping center or a million other places you are exposed to unvaccinated people all the time- either bc they don't vaccinate or delay vaccinations or are from a diff country or the vaccinations wore off. Unless there is a specific thing going around that needs extra hishtadlus I wouldn't worry at all. you're exposed all the time whether u know it or not.

With all due respect, there is still a difference in having your child’s friend over who may be incubating whooping cough or measles and playing with your fisherprice bus and possibly sneezing on it and 10 minutes later or the next morning your 6 month old mouths it.
Vs shopping in a big mall with some unvaxed adult immigrant or any other scenario.
Of course an airborne disease can still be transmitted in the supermarket, especially with all the handling of stuff, but still not the same as actually having a child playing with your toys etc.
(Saying this as someone whose kids are all vaccinated, but have neighbors that are staunch antivaxers. They come to play, but if we know of anything going around and have a newborn then, they will have to play outside and wash their hands well when coming in).

I would recommend taking general precautions with a newborn regardless of the vaccine status of the visitor. This translates into good hygiene and respectful communication prior to visiting.
I have had highly vaccinated relatives hide the fact that they were sick with the flu ( they dosed up on advil prior to coming to my house and said their cough was due to allergies ) and friends who do not vaccinate ask for my permission prior to visiting if their child had a slightly runny nose.
Given these experiences, I do not feel the need to “screen” my unvaccinated friends any more carefully than anyone else who comes in contact with my child. Most illnesses do have an incubation period and who is incubating what disease is beyond the scope of my knowledge or control.
My rule is that all visitors and their families need to be completely well (so, no “allergic “ coughs either! ) if I have a newborn at home.

Please tell me which state you live in! which states are easy to get an exemption? other posters can bash all you want, but right now we havent vaccinated our toddler ever and are trying to decide where to settle down and buy a house. Worried about getting our kids into schools. Please tell me which frum communities and schools dont make a big issue about unvaccinated kids, thanks so much
