They’ve changed in the last few years to be a little more maxi-dress like but the original “robe” style is basically a house coat but make it ✨fashion✨. They were typically velour, column gowns with fancy embellishments, but also zip or button up. The goal is flattering, won’t crush the challah belly, a little sparkle, comfy enough that you can fall asleep on the couch in it, and an easy way out (either for for nursing or so you don’t destroy the 12 layers of makeup you just put on for the morning).

Yes! This is what I remember Shabbos robes looking like years ago :-)

For the curious, the closest I was able to find to that nowadays would be something like these =

You're hysterical Goldie, yes these are more older styles, memories.....and seems like they make you look like 3 houses too, plenty of space to stuff yoursef by seuda with challah and cholent without kvetching your belly, or enough space to wear your nightshirt underneath to lounge around in morn.

Can I say I know it’s a problem but only if you wait til last minute. Every store runs sales so why don’t you buy then? Also so many companies and store now sell maxi dresses.
The issue is you need to buy when you find and after the season when it’s on sale for the next Yom Tov, and not wait til erev Yom Tov.

I know, and I do that when I can, but I was working on losing weight and bh lost a lot of weight since the end of last winter so it wouldn't help me.

Omg that's like a walk down memory lane LOL

After my time but I have some older memories of the women in my life wearing those, and pictures from the 80s/90s!

These were more the chassidish weekday type.

Update: I bought a robe for total price of 204.83. Polyester. Doesn't need a shell. Front buttons so can nurse in it. Looks very good on me (that was the clincher). I got 3/5 of what I was looking for. (price, fit, material, nursing style, shell) I'm still upset that this plastic thing has to cost this much, but you win some you lose some I guess?
