Omg, one time I “fell in” with a poly velour robe. It was awful to wear, I still cringe when I remember that awful plasticy heavy feeling.

They were typically velour, column gowns with fancy embellishments, but also zip or button up. The goal is flattering, won’t crush the challah belly, a little sparkle, comfy enough that you can fall asleep on the couch in it, and an easy way out (either for for nursing or so you don’t destroy the 12 layers of makeup you just put on for the morning). |
Ok this makes much more sense, thanks for explaining!

I wear a long, flowy, stretchy elastic-waist knit skirt and a loose-fitting button-front blouse. Both polyester for the wrinkle-free aspect, but I could sub a cotton knit top if I wanted to,and usually do in summer if there's no a/c. It is more company-appropriate than a Shabbos "robe," which, no matter how you pretty it up, still looks like it belongs in the boudoir, not the living room. And if necessary I can wear it out of the house and not look like I forgot to get dressed. Because it's real clothing that I have chosen to use as lounge wear, not lounge wear that I have renamed Shabbos wear. And I can and do fall asleep on the couch in it and wear it to the table the next day, no problem.

It is a shame that most of their items have size guides. The one above does, but most of the others do not.

So if these are women’s robes it’s for age 17 to 70+. Out of the 53 year range people have children on and off for around 25 tops. From this 25 year age range what percentage is nursing at any given time? I’d say not more than 25%.
So that’s around 12% of potential customers….
There are robes with front zippers, and robe tops and skirts, and even some with side zippers….
I don’t think they specifically need to be more accommodating to nursing moms. Especially if there’s an easy solution with the zippers.. |
lol I also was weirded out from her assuming 1/3 of the frum population is nursing at any given time. I have 7 married sibs all in child rearing stage, 1 is nursing. 3 weeks ago none were.
Ur list is long OP. You’re looking for a unicorn

I love your post vent OP. And gut voch!
I feel you- I tried on robes for hours too myself. Lingerie spot is great, and they have downstairs sale sections too.
I found a good winter robe last year thats velour that’s great, like you described bh it has extra room not hip or chest hugging, even if I don’t wear tights in it around the house I still feel like I look ok from the back if you know what I mean. Not sure if it’s polyester or not but it’s comfortable so maybe not?
It’s the summer robes I find impossible to find a good one. Those are like thinner sheer material, all polyester, so u end up hot in the summer and have to wear tights cuz not as forgiving with the material. Sigh. Good luck finding your comfy robe!
Also the price - I find it’s just if u want the frum one, u pay the price and it lasts for several years iyh. The downstairs have sale ones but if U don’t find a sale one u just get the regular one. Yes they r ridiculously pricey.
Also the nursing one I had years ago with a front zipper bh was good, this velour one has a newer style that you life up, it’s one piece but the top has like an extra layer. It’s way easier to nurse in and stay semi covered, id recommend it if u find it, they had some like this at the frum lingerie stores. This season they are selling a lot of robes with green hues too

I have three married siblings, one is nursing and so am I.
I have 8 married in-law siblings, four are nursing and two are heavily pregnant.
My neighbors and friends, most of them are nursing.
Most women in their childrearing years are either pregnant (wearing maternity) or nursing (up to two years after a baby). Many women don't buy a new robe every year so even if they are currently not nursing, they might want to keep in mind to have that option the following year, or they'll be wearing their nursing robe from the year before. Look, I didn't do exact math calculations on how many women are nursing but it's a significant segment of their clientele to have it in mind with more options.

Don't love it don't hate it, but for a cropped cardigan, it's a bit pricey. The robe/dress/jumper underneath isn't included.

I didn't say it was, I was agreeing about being comfortable. No need to be so rude.

In real life, it's very weekdays. Wouldn't purchase it for shabbos

That does look comfy - is it more of a winter material or a summer material?
