And cancer deaths are because of oncologists and nurses.

Not murders or shootings elsewhere. Most of these shootings happened in the school the shooter went to.
Im not saying I agree with this statement or not. It was said by someone who was interviewed after a shooting a few years ago. Don't remember where but this sentence stuck in my head as someone who suffered at the hands of her school. |
That’s like saying that ice cream causes death by drowning because when autopsies are done following a fatal drowning they usually find ice-cream in the stomach of the victim.
Correlation does not mean causality. Psych 101.

thats not true. its because kids get access to their parents' guns. no matter how strict the laws would be, the parents would still qualify. its because of bad gun safety as well as insufficient security at schools

They don’t create the red flag, they address it. |
As an aside, it doesn’t help that schools in America proudly hang signs proclaiming, “Our school is a gun-free zone.”
Can you say “sitting ducks” any louder?

Are you saying you would feel more comfortable with laws that allow concealed carry in schools?

Why do you think celebs and politicians are surrounded by armed security?

Part of why school shootings are a thing is because most schools are "gun-free zones". The shooters know they'll likely get a few kills in and get "famous" before dying or getting caught themselves. If they would hear more stories of the potential shooter getting shot before even managing to shoot one person they'd be less likely to try it. Unfortunately, those stories are rarely amplified. These potential shooters whose lives feel utterly worthless see the stories of school shooters on TV and it sounds like something more worthwhile than the life they're living. If A) schools would stop being gun-free zones but rather enforcement zones for increased punishment for illegal guns & B) the news stops mentioning who a shooter was when a school shooting happens but gives a lot of attention to failed attempts it would possibly be helpful. These losers who want to do school shootings want to be famous. They don't want to be exposed to the whole world as a failure and a loser. Make them terrified that that will happen. They're not afraid to die. They're afraid of being ashamed.

You're on the right track, but it's because of school principals and math teachers cause all schools have them.

Those set on harming others will do so regardless of laws. Law abiding trained citizens are the ones able to help in such situations.

Yes but only to people who pass a full background check including a mental health screening. These background checks and screenings should be repeated every time you renew your license.

In England even the police on duty don't always carry guns. No-one has a gun unless they are seriously in with gangs or terrorists or something. You get stabbings in rough areas but not shootings.
Honestly it's not a stretch to imagine a teenager with mental health issues wanting to do a shooting. Teenagers can be self destructive and tend to think it's everyone else's fault, hormones raging, spending the day listening to angry music and playing angry games and thinking about death to everyone they hate with their undeveloped prefrontal cortex, put a gun in easy reach, let them find a way to leave the world and leave a mark and revenge for feeling hard done by - it's carrying out a fantasy that solves their problem. Not to mention this whole thing could live pretty invisibly inside their head.
I don't think anyone can stop the occasional teenager from feeling like that, they can only put safe measures in place to prevent them from doing harm. Now there are guns everywhere, that's much harder to do without, well, more guns. That's not ideal, but they've already dug a hole too big...

Yes and no. I said very clearly in my post that for people with mental health challenges, they cannot differentiate between real life and their make believe screen existence.

Mass shootings are not a uniquely American problem at all unfortunately. Is there really such a big difference between shooting up a school or going on shooting spree at a concert filled with teens and tweens?

There is definitely a mental health crisis in the U.S.
Guns dont shoot by themselves. Its the people holding them.
The last few school shootings were by trans teens. Before it was the goths.
And certain psychiatric medications may cause phycosis.
Every school shooting suspect was red flagged by police, neighbors or the schools.
Perhaps preventive measures is needed.
