My oldest is in 8th grade. And I am panicking. I know nothing about high schools. Her school unfortunately doesn't have a HS and that means I am stuck.
I need guidance. When do I apply?
I remember entrance exams are in Nov which is coming up... Help.
We are a regular heimish chassidish family- not associated with any particular chassidis.
My DD is not academically bright
I feel lost. Where do I start????

Emunas
Tomer Devorah
Bais Yaakov

The other options are Mesilas, Bais Sura and Bais Brocha but they are on high academic standards and she may have a difficult time.

Where do most girls from her elementary school go? I’d start looking there. Good luck!

I would start by calling mothers of her friends or girls in her class who are similar type to you and ask them what they plan on doing.

We are heimish too and my girls love BY high school. Start by finding out where girls in her class are applying to.

BYHS is a huge mix of Heimish/ Chassidish/ Litvish sound alike your DD would fit right in. They also have multiple tracks for lower and higher academic levels which is really helpful.

Vien might also be an option for Heimish/Chassidish unless they changed in recent years they weren’t super Chasidish like the elementary.

To the Poster who mentioned Tomer Devorah it does not seem to be a good fit at all. Tomer Devorah in recent years became way more Chassidish than it used to be. In addition it has always been extremely high level.

If you're looking for a smaller school, Emunas sounds like the right fit.

Otherwise, I'd go with Bais Yaakov.

I don't want to sound harsh, but please be careful to hide this fear from your daughter. you seem to be getting very panicky for no reason.

first of all, we are only in september. as you said, entrance exams are not until november. you have at least 6 weeks. If school starts in september of 2025 and she isn't enrolled anywhere, then you are "stuck." you are not "stuck" now, in september/october of 2024.

second, people here gave good suggestions:
turn to her current school for advice
speak to mothers of her friends

there are a lot of very nice people here from BP who are happy to help, as seen by the number of responses.

also, I don't think BP is lakewood/monsey where there is a real shortage of schools. IYH, most girls get in somewhere.

Please, do yourself a favor. stop panicking and daven. Hashem has figured out where girls from crazy backgrounds should go to school. He figured out how to take me out of public school and stick my pants wearing self in Bais Yakov, He can definitely figure out where your daughter should go to high school.

(I hope I don't sound too mean or harsh, I just want you to relax a little bit! You are in the best hands!)
