OK, I don't usually follow customs such as these, but times being what they are ... I just bought myself a paring knife. I would have loved a challah knife (I don't own one), but I'd need the parnassa first!

Aren't challah knives serrated? Mine is. (It actually was cheaper than my good cutting knife. I paid $18 for one with a sterling silver handle. My cutting knife came from Tuesday morning and I paid $35 for it. I was tired of dull knives, so I splurged last year.)

I think you're right, challah knives are serrated. At least the bread knives (not specifically challah) at the store were serrated.
I'll be using my new paring knife to cut apples tonight, in any case.

dh told me something about gematrios for parnassah and knife. they sell the silver challah knives both with and without teeth. My mil bought us one this year, I wonder if that counts or you have to buy it by yourself?
