Does baby need a coat and bunting in the winter or is just a coat fine
Don’t want baby to overheat in the Doona with a coat hat and bunting but maybe I’m forgetting how cold winter is
Ny for reference

Need? No. But it’s so much more convenient and warm

Many buntings are warm enough that you don’t need a coat over 30 degrees. Winters haven’t been that coat the past 2-3 years. I think a coat and thick blanket is fine.

They shouldn’t have a coat in the car seat so the bunting is instead of the coat

It’s a bunting that attaches to the coat. So you can’t have just the bunting

You don’t buy this type, you get the one that you place inside the car seat, and then your baby doesn’t need a coat at all. If it’s very cold you add a blanket and hat.

Your baby should not be in a coat in the car. I'm sure you know that. You can buckle him in and then put the coat on backwards, or use a bunting sack.
I'm curious what you mean by a bunting that connects to a coat? Can you link?

No, this is not meant to be worn in the car or car seat. For the car seat, get only a thick sweater & cover the baby with a blanket when on the street.
A coat in the car seat is not safe & extremely sweaty & uncomfortable.

A bunting coat in the car? That's really uncomfortable for the baby, squished in the car seat like that. Car seat straps don't protect properly if they're strapped over a coat.

Right that’s what I’m worried about
The coat I want to get is a lighter weight down, not a super thick puffy one so if it’s colder I’ll just add a blanket

For a young baby you can skip the coat & just put on a warm hat & car seat cover.
Definitely don't get a snowsuit type bunting- not at all compatible with a carseat/ doona.
