Research shows it’s very important for children’s emotional health for the family to eat dinner together. Sometimes it’s just not possible throughout the week though… thankfully there’s Shabbos and Yom Tov.

My kids come home hungry at 4:30 so I feed them then and my husband and I take turns eating in the evening insanity. We used to have the kids sit down with us while we ate but he now gets home too close to bedtime for that

Yes we try our best, we start off around 540 because it takes my youngest so much longer to eat, and my oldest gets home around then and is super ready for supper. Middle one usually still needs more time so I call him in around when Husband walks in, which is around 545/6 and they joins us. Youngest is done around 615/620, other ones are typically finishing up. It is a very nice schedule.
Before this year, husband was coming home much later towards 630/645 so he had supper and kids would sit near and shmooze. Same concept of connection, but they already ate because that is just too late for them to start eating.

I wish!

The day this happens is the day that I'll feel put together. At least I think so.

One day, one day....

Thank you Hashem for shabbos and YT! For many reasons!

I really don't think it's necessary every day. Kids tend to eat rather earlier than adults, and often at least one parent simply doesn't get home from work early enough to eat with the kids. Not to mention older kids who are in school late, what are you going to do, force the little ones to hold off on dinner and bed till the older ones get home? As you say, B"H for Sabbat and YT, and that appears to be more than sufficient.

I really try but I usually throw some frozen food in the oven as the kids can't wait until 630 when my husband gets home. Tonight we did have family dinner and I love when that happens.
