I work part time and looking to do some sort of chesed that won't take up too much time, like a couple hours a week - daytime not evening.
All I can think of is visiting people in nursing home but I'm not a big conversationalist..
Or thinking of making a lunch or supper for family in need but don't know of any or who to ask, I'm guessing for an organization they'd want a hechsher of some sort which I'm not looking for the hassle of
Not looking to be tied down , needs to be my time to choose so not something like driving people around or watching kids.
So any other ideas you ladies could share ?
Thank you !

Where are you located? SBH in brooklyn had food box deliveries to seniors on Wednesday and Thursday during the day. They accept meals without a strict hechsher

I know I'm being really fussy but I hope if I can get a list of ideas I can sift through I should find something that feels right

There is a bikor cholim kitchen in Monsey that prepares food that they take to hospitals. Its very enjoyable clean work. They have a group of women a few times a week and make sandwiches, cut and package cakes, put soups in containers...
I don't know who organizes the groups. Maybe call the organization directly and ask them.

Tomchei shabbos in monsey is always looking for volunteers. I’m on a chat for Adin’s closet and they’re always looking for people to package clothing for kids and deliver. You’re welcome to dm and I could pass contact info.

If it’s something you can volunteer with, it can still be useful for delivering suppers for organizations.
Also, an organization like kochavim may need volunteer drivers with car seats Smile

I like to visit lonely people or take walks with them. There are so many older widows in my neighborhood, and some are lonely. They can be bright and have lots to say. However, they might want regularity, like a weekly walk on Monday at noon for example, or a visit on Shabbos an hour before mincha.

My friend had a weekly Scrabble game with a lonely old woman as her chessed. She liked playing Scrabble so it was a win-win.

Ask at your local library or an animal shelter. Can you fundraise or be a substitute helper?

You can offer to take shifts at a nursing home or hospital to give a family some relief.
Yes, you're tied down, but you can choose what day/time works for you.

Kol hakavod to you !

Monsey recommendations :

Adins closet is always looking for people to sort through the clothing and / or drive the donations . There is a chat just for drivers, if that is more up your alley.

Sister to sister is an organization that can always use help.

HEART is an organization of that helps/visits Holocaust survivors.

Tomchei Shabbos has official women’s packing hours Wednesday nights , if night doesn’t work for you good chance they could use some type of help during the day.

Torahmates/partners in Torah are two sorts that match up mentors and students - who often become friends - for about a half hour per week.

Hatzlacha ! You should be blessed for your efforts in helping others !
