I'm in a tough spot financially now and I can't bring my wigs in to a sheitelmacher. I'm pretty good with a curling iron but I tried washing it at home with tresseme shampoo and conditioner but it didn't feel or look good. Any products that I can use that'll help? TIA

Side note, how often do you bring your wig to your sheitelmacher?

I use treseme no problem. Lots of sheitle marchers also do. Have you watched tutorials? There are lots on you tube. Make sure you are watching for the right kind of wig ( human hair, skin top/ lace top...)

Wash twice with shampoo and once with conditioner.
Do not put conditioner on roots. Towel dry first.
Air dry on a tilt.

haha I thought the trick was to use special sprays or serums but no one suggested that. I guess its just shampoo and conditioner. Hopefully next time it'll set nicer. Maybe I'll try to blow it instead of air dry.

Much easier with a wig stand attached to the table.

So there is something to the tilt! I was in a bind one morning so I washed mine and then hung it at a 90° angle to dry faster. It came out silky smooth and felt better than any time I had it done professionally!

To take out frizz, I use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CN.....;th=1
It really works well, and the sheitel comes out smooth and sleek.
I heard a tip from a friend who works with a sheitel macher: the longer you let the sheitel soak with conditioner, the softer it becomes. Yet I don't know if there is a difference between a Human and a synthetic sheitel.

Either you buy a clamp and put it on a table or if you don't have one you put foam head on the top of a broom (they usually have a hole on bottom) and lean against a chair.

(If you'll be doing your wig regularly I recommend getting the right tools!)

Blowing definitely gives it a smoother finish. You can use a "protective spray" or oil or just mist it with water and reblow it
