My kids need excellent quality literature. I will go crazy over YT without a nice large stack of books.

Please give me your recommendations!

My son is in 4th/5th grade but reads well above that. Loved the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series. He read it 2 years ago to show his reading level. So maybe 8/9th grade? Super smart. (But obviously some topics are too old for his age so hence my issue).
Daughter is 2-4th grade reading level.

Needs to be from public library.
Violence ok for my son.
Needs to be clean in terms of intimacy and dating. I was ok with Harry Potter level but it was quite vague and in hints.

For your son

Redwall
The Prydain chronicles
"The Dark is Rising" series by Susan Cooper
The Dragons in the Waters series by Jane Yolen

I think they both might enjoy books by Bruce Coville and Gordon Korman.

What a list!
What do your symbols mean?
-
X
~

My son loved some of these books...
Story thieves
Mysterious Benedict
Hobbit series

Didn't like too many talking animals, oddly enough.

Narnia is pretty obvious Christian theology (I asked as a child when I read it) so that one is out...

Those are just my own symbols- x is what he didn’t like and the lines show what he read and what my other kid read so I know not to get it again.
