I am trying to become a minimalist at home, any recommendations of where to start or what to get rid of? Barometers to use of keeping and throwing out? Amounts of things? Any advice appreciated

Me too, it helped me a lot
I'm not a minimalist, with my family, my husband, I can't imagine how I could be, but her book helped me to middle down things I own a lot & create much more order.
I didn't follow her exact method, she's pretty specific, rather I did it more gradually

Only keep the things we need I have limited space and closet clutter gets me nervous, so we give away al the time
Minimal toys whatever fits in the shelves or toy box
Clothes that fit in drawers
Storage closet has a few boxes of baby clothes , sentimental stuff.
Books whatever fits in the shelves

This makes so much sense to me but I have so much trouble, all our drawers and shelves are overflowing. Plus do you pass down between children?

Are you familiar with Marie Kondo? How you should keep that which sparks joy? Now that she lives in the US and has a family, I've heard that she's a bit less vigilant.

It depends on the clothes very good condition,
Nice dresses, designer stuff that’ll be worn again I save in boxes
Anything worn out or cheaper like I got for $5 I’ll give away. Or pick purple if very worn out

Every season before rh/sukkos, pesach and in June whatever’s too worn out
Now I’m going through the drawers packing away some of the nicer summer clothes that aren’t for the fall Some can be used in the fall here
I have a garbage bag in the storage room I keep adding to once 3 are filled I give away to pick purple

I manage fine in the rest of the home and enjoy a place for everything and everything in place. I feel good when I get rid of things.
But I need help with the clothes closets. I need someone to show me how to make these decisions and really feel confident getting rid of clothes I like but don't always wear.

OP, in addition to implement minimalist style it's not only about getting rid of stuff. It's also about trying to stand against buying things. Things don't get into our home on their own.

In the book frum minimalism, Ellie say “ if everything is special, nothing is.” Do u have alot of sentimental things, or just a few?
If it’s just a few, she suggests putting it in a small memory box- have a nice curated collection for f sentimental da that you and your family will enjoy going through time in again.
