In case you've recently searched ideas, created a pinterest page, or are a designer who doesn't mind giving a free opinion...I very much like the look of dark wood (cherry etc). However, my kitchen is smallish, has only 1 window. So I think all dark wood will look too dark.

Therefore thinking of light, e.g. cream, for upper cabinets, & dark wood for base. So far so good. (I think light for the base will get too dirty, though I do have help that will wipe them down at least weekly... so maybe?)

BUT one person (who I think has a good eye) told me that in that case counters needs to be neutral.

I saw a really beautiful counter material with a bold color (I don't want to specify as it would totally identify me to anyone who knows me : ) so I guess it will be hard to imagine... okay, let's say navy blue marbly type of quartz as an example.

Friend says that will be way too much if I do different top & bottom cabinets plus color on counters.

I would just like to hear other opinions, maybe you have a pic you can link pro or con

I’m no professional but I agree with your friend. If there are so many color differences, the kitchen will be overwhelming to the eye and brain.

I have the same for top and bottom. Light color with a skightly dark grain. Light marble counters. Great lighting. My kitchen is gorgeous. It looks much bigger than it actually is.

I have a small kitchen with NO window.

I went with exactly what I wanted which was quarter sawn oak cabinets in a medium honey stain - copper accents - sink, hood, ceiling and Black Galaxy Counter.

I have lots of light and so my kitchen has plenty of task lighting plus up lights which illuminated the copper coved ceiling.

Windows are overrated because a lot of the time I spend in the kitchen is when it is dark out anyway.

My kitchen is dramatic when lit and very attractive and warm during the day. I previously had lighter cabinets and they didn't really make the room seem larger or brighter and I still needed to turn on the task lights during the day.
