Google seems conflicted about whether I need a doctor.
A friend thought her dog was ready to be petted on the back after hanging out with me and sniffing me, and sadly she was wrong. I got two little punctures on my - what do you call the part of your hand between the palm and the thumb? I kind of think of it as your thumb's buttcheek?
Anyway it was a very small dog so the area of the bite is small but it definitely drew blood in two spots.
My first instinct was to press it with ice because it hurt that bad. Only a little later did my brain kick in and remind me to wash it. By then I think it had already started to close off so I don't know if the punctures got washed out, though I tried to rub the soap around decently. Then added triple antibiotic ointment and a bandaid.
At this point can I just keep an eye on it and see if it's fine or gets infected? Or do I need to see a doctor just in case? Not sure if the Internet is just collectively trying to avoid a lawsuit or if it's actually necessary.

Call your doctor if the bite drew blood.

Is the dog vaccinated against rabies?
Are you vaccinated against tetanus (= had a shot in the last 5-10 years)?
Talk to your doctor about it.

The dog is a pet so I assume has been vaccinated. As far as I can tell my last tdap shot was in 2017 so more than 5 years but less than 10 years ago.

I was bitten recently. Antibiotic cream. I refused oral antibiotic and the doctor said I only really need it if it gets infected. It didn't. I took a tetanus shot because I hadn't had one since I was 4.
