We go to high end places once a month (3-500$)
And regular places a couple of times a week 😳 lunch is out 2-3 times a week and supper at least once a week. |
If you live in NY or NJ, can you please post some fancier and some less fancy places you can recommend? I’m always looking for something new, either to go with my friend or to go with my husband. (I go with her for a girls night out, but also to places that my husband won’t go!)

My husband and I are empty nesters and we go out to eat quite a lot. Sometimes we do a brunch, sometimes a lunch, mostly dinner.

Never cant stomach the thought of paying 35 dollars for chicken salad when I can make it much better and cheaper at home.
I get enjoyment from spending money on stuff for my kids more than eating out.

For the past couple of years I’ve been experimenting with foods I like in restaurants so now when I go, I’m almost never satisfied and I’m upset that I spent the money…. But it’s nice to be served

High end- about three times a year anniversary and each of our birthdays and if there’s any other super special occasion
Regular restaurant/takeout- prob once a month/every other month for the whole family, more often for just dh and me (sushi or sandwiches or fish grill 😋)- on winter or summer vacation and when I need a break from cooking.
Pizza - every third week
Since inflation we cut back.

NYC restaurants for birthday or anniversary - kids are little so it’s just us
Traditionally it’s Pizza Thursday nights
Sushi for parents
Sometimes we’ll buy bagels or pizza on Sundays

Yeah, this is my hesitation too. A lot of mid- and inexpensive places cook average food, in my experience. I don’t want to pay for something I can cook better.

For those that enjoy an high end experience anywhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan you would recommend? I'll go to Teaneck if it's out of this world experience.

I think I misunderstood the question lol
I answered more once (or more) a week, but for me that means meeting friends for coffee/brunch or getting myself sushi or takeout for lunch at work...
Fancy going out? with husband? Rarely.

I enjoy it but it’s often cost prohibitive.
OP: how often do you ?

I don’t think you misunderstood. I never go out to ‘fancy’ restaurants. But I responsed based on the kind of restaurants we go to.

I go out to eat when someone else is paying. So when my in-laws come to town or whatever. Not often.
My kids are BH good eaters so they need a LOT of food to be full -- except for one who is very picky and is hard to order for -- so eating out gets very expensive. And with older kids and little kids, it's almost easier and less stressful to just eat at home.
But the main reason is the cost. It's not a necessity, so we don't do it. Maybe once a year or so, for a very special occasion. And even then it's usually pizza or something.

We only go out when my grandparents take us out, which is a few times a year. Otherwise, once every few years like for a big number anniversary or a graduation. What do I vote?”
