My almost 4 year old is in a convertible car seat, it has the booster option. She is on the bigger side but for now we are doing car seat. My son is 8 and on the shorter side. Just 4 ft. He is almost finished the booster, likely in a year. For carpool we don't. Mind you it's a short ride-10 minutes. I go by height and not weight for booster.

8 seems pretty old to be in a car seat

She just turned 8 and is not tall. The reason I prefer this car seat is because we have 3 car seats in a car. It's very hard to use a booster and the car seat belt that has to go between car seats. The 5 point harness is a lot easier. She fits well within the weight limit of 65...

Height matters more so the seatbelt hits right.

To me, its a question of how big of an inconvenience. Since I don't own a car, shlepping 1 car seat and 2 high back boosters would be too much. So I do 1 car seat and 2 low backs. If I owned a car, pretty sure I'd do 2 high backs

I got a tallish 5.5 yo and a tiny almost 8 yo.

Thank you all for your input.
I’m curious to hear from those in the poll that don’t wait as long…

High back booster with 5 point harness is just as safe as a car seat imo

That *is* a car seat. It's called a combination car seat.
