Today is the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine. Since the beginning of this terrible war, pain has knocked at the home of almost every Ukrainian — someone has lost a loved one, someone is struggling with injuries.
On this day I want to share with you my personal pain. In 2004, my wife and I adopted an 11-year-old boy who was an orphan. His name was Anton Samborsky, but we gave him the Hebrew name Mattityahu (Motya) after the heroic leader of the Maccabean revolt against the invading empire over 2,200 years ago, the events that formed the basis of the Hanukkah holiday.
Motya lived in our family for about 10 years. He got married, and this May he had a daughter. But a week after the birth of the child, Motya was drafted into the army. After a quick course of the young fighter, he was immediately sent to the front line.
The last time we spoke with Motya was on July 17. And already on July 24, during the battle, he went missing. His wife received an official document...
On this Day of Remembrance of fallen defenders of Ukraine, I pray for all the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of their country. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Yes.
They have 14 children and a number of adopted children.
