S/o from the thread about the glasses and contacts. At what point do you get your teen braces for cosmetic purposes. My daughter wants braces but she her teeth are almost perfect she has two teeth one on each side that are slightly crooked. It is barely noticable. She wants braces so she can have a perfect smile. Would you get her braces? The crooked teeth are not in the front of her mouth and are barely noticable when she smiles. Ideally a perfect smile would be nice but 4k is a bit much....

Can she get Invisalign instead? Braces will have her with braces for as long as it takes. Maybe her dentist can make her a retainer or something to wear part time that isn’t so expensive? I don’t know, just thinking out loud.
Or tell her that even if she gets them fixed, there’s no guarantee they’ll stay that way. It’s a long commitment.

What does orthodontist say. My ortho told my daughter she doesn't need but if she wants for cosmetic she could get. I said no! If she wants for cosmetic she can pay when she is older. Her teeth are perfectly fine.

I refuse Invisalign for teens since I don't think they will wear it and in my experience with my other children it was the same price. Ortho says it is purely cosmetic. Honestly I would even get for pure cosmetic if it was noticeable. This is barely noticable. Just curious what others would do.

Then absolutely not. Again if it was for function then 100% yes but just to make something that is fine look perfectly fine? It's just not in my budget.

There’s a company that sells cheap like-invisalign braces. It may work for moving a couple teeth a little. Don’t know the company but you can google it.

Not worth it.

I had braces and there are so many downsides to it.

1. It is extremely difficult to maintain oral hygiene. I flossed with a water pik every single night and brushed twice a day. Still had some stains that took a loooong time to go away.

2. It’s not healthy for the teeth. It really isn’t.

3. Unless she’s ready to wear retainers for as long as she lives, her teeth WILL move back.

Besides all that, if her problem is really as insignificant as you say it is, she should absolutely be paying for it herself.

I wouldn’t.
It can cause staining on teeth that will look much worse.
Also when ppl did it for cosmetic only I found they aren’t always 100% happy bec it is very difficult to get perfection and that is what they are looking for.
And as others said you must wear a retainer. Often teeth move back - especially during pregnancy - unless you wear your retainer forever.
