Anyone have any idea why the schools are starting so much later than usual?
I'm talking about YES and Toras Emes. I don't know about the other schools. They usually start the last week in August and this year they are starting on Sept 3.
Just wondering what the reason behind it is. They ended in the second week of June as usual.

I think this year is challenging because elul is so late. If any rebbeim or parents work in a boys camp they don't end until Thursday. Its also an issue for the campers.

I hear. It's just crazy because camp ended a few weeks ago.
The public schools already started. They should have ended a week later if they were going to start so late.

No, each school year is a discrete unit. They'll have to make up any days lost during the course of this year. Adding extra days last year wouldn't make any sense for thise who finished or are just starting

Our Midwest school contacted many schools across the country to find out when they were starting. Camps were going so late due to Elul (my girls come home Sunday!)
September 3 sounded like the start date many schools decided on. We also usually start this week
BH we're starting later this year, we had such craziness building wise and it's all yad Hashem that we'll be ready in time.

(Our school actually decided to extend our year in June by a few days mid-year to help parents have a smaller window of off time without raising tuition despite the financial burden on the school.)

I don't know. Here in Florida , our kids schools usually start a week earlier than the NY schools. (Usually Aug 27, 28..)
This year its different, and they are starting the same day.

Im in the midwest and we typically start Aug 30th ish this year the boys have a half day 9/4 and everyone has a full day Thursday 9/5. There are enough rebbeim and moros who work in east coast camps that asking them to forgo the income would not go over well.

Right, we have the same start date as you usually.
We would be starting tomorrow or Thursday any other year...
