I got a new phone. I never had a filter on my old phone. I went to search something and something popped up that "safe search" is on. Im on an android. I do not want a filter. I never put one on either. And I am sure my husband didnt either. So I am confused how my new phone has a filter that I didnt put on or into my new phone.
Any ideas?

There are different types of safe search. It can be triggered by a filter, an antivirus, or parental controls, or it might just be the default on your phone for some reason.

Safe search shows up if you use duckduckGo as your search engine.

I dont have a filter, antivirus or parental controls on my phone.
And if it would be a default, would there be a way to change that?

What do you mean a regular internet search? Which search engine are you using? Are you doing a google search?

OP, open your browser (I e chrome, firefox, opera, brave etc.) then look for browser settings. In Chrome there's a gear icon at the bottom right of the screen. In brave, press on the three dots at the bottom right of the screen and then go to settings.

Look for 'search engine' and post what it says.

Safe search is barely a filter, it just prevents the worst of the worst.
Is it really impeding your functionality?

I don't know OP, but I know it can be a problem for some medical personnel.

Well seeing as j never had a filter, this feels very restrictive.
And thats not the point of my post.
But thank you anyway.

To me safe search is good as it means if I mistype or if there's an inappropriate second meaning of a word then I don't get all sorts of things popping up. At the very least I don't need to accidentally end up on some p0rn website.
It's not a filter as such, it just means you can't search for something inappropriate. If you typed in the website into browser, it wouldn't stop you accessing the site, which a filter would.

If you aren't signed in on Google, safe search has a default node which you can not change without an accounts if you make a Google account or log in with an existing one, it will allow you to change it.
