When I say OOT, I mean in a place not where you live….
We have an upcoming OOT simcha. It’s in a place where we don’t know anyone. We need to decide if we should attend with the entire family, or just one spouse will go, and find our own accommodations either way.
Just curious, I’d like to know how others navigated OOT simchas. Does the person making the simcha offer places to stay for guests? Food? Contacts for babysitters? No one offered us anything and if we go, we’ll need to pay a fortune for a local hotel, find our own babysitters, kosher food, transportation, etc.
Food, we’re on our own.I googled a few kosher places near the simcha, we’ll manage with that. I was once at a OOT simcha, the host arranged a simple bagel, tuna, eggs and salads on buffet tables in a conference room in the hotel, and let us know that would be available. She also arranged a group rate at the hotel, as well as shuttles from hotel to airport. I know not everyone does that and we all really appreciated it.
How have OOT simchas been arranged for you, how have you navigated it with kids? I’d love to hear ideas.
TIA!

We are actually on our way for an oot wedding. We are all going. No arrangements were made. We found a hotel and are paying.
The baal simcha has enough on their plate, and actually coming from oot too to make the simcha.

I think it may depend on if your host is also from OOT.
When making a wedding, if you are family/friend of the chassan, and his parents also needed to travel in for the chasunah, they will likely not know these things. If you are going in for a bar mitzvah and live there, it is fair to be able to ask about resources.
