A family visits their grandparents once or twice a year. Every time they come, the two boys (ages 7 and 9) sleep in the blue room.
Now, they both want the bed by the window.
Kid A (older) claims he should get it because he gets it every year, so it's his by default.
Kid B feels he should get it because his brother always gets it, so now it's his turn.
Mother says, whoever gets into pajamas first gets the bed he chooses.
Kid B runs to get into pajamas first. Kid A didn't hear the announcement and claims it's not fair because he didn't hear the announcement.
So who gets the preferred bed?

We take turns. Whoever got it last time doesn’t get it this time and will get it next time.

I would make them switch every night or visit. The bed doesn’t belong to either of them so they can take turns to make it fair
I do hope they aren’t up still at 10pm waiting on this imamother poll though

Not sure.
But the other kid told him about the contest as he was running to get into pajamas. But the kid who didn't hear came to complain to his mother that he doesn't have clean pajamas because kid C mixed the clean and dirty laundry together in the laundry basket. (The laundry basket that had originally contained clean FOLDED laundry. )
So then Kid B came back wearing pajamas that he claimed were from last night, because he also couldn't find clean pajamas in the basket.
Anyway. I more than answered your question.

So the problem is the contest wasn't fair...

They can share the bed, or better yet cut it in half

If this works anything like the car, then the older child gets the front seat in the car when it’s just me in the car with him. Seem like a fair contest if anything I think You should take turns

Let them work it out on their own and come up with a solution. 9 and 7 are old enough to do that
