I'm not 3x but I definitely wear shape wear as needed. I like the kind that goes from right under my bra til mid thigh.

I mean, we're size 3X ladies. No clothing is going to disguise the fact that we're not skinnie minnies. It's especially hard in the summer when it's too hot to wear extra layers. In the spring and fall I wear a lot of popover tops and in the winter I live in black skirts and black shells with open front sweaters that have a bit of a swing to them. I have a few dresses that are more flattering to my figure. Generally they're lined with an outer layer that's looser. Again, that's not great for the summer, but it works for the rest of the year. Material with a wavyish vertical pattern distracts the eye and is flattering.

1) Make sure the dress isn’t too tight
2) Shapewear that ends right at the top of your torso before your bra and goes over your shoulder like bra straps with shorts attached

Shapewear helps, but I think it’s more about the fit and texture of the dress. I try to find dresses that skim my body…so they’re not overly big but they’re loose enough that nothing is bulging. Also, the right texture or print can go a long way to hide things. A nice style for a gown, is something with a sheer overlay. That extra layer can be very flattering. Good luck!
