This needs to be addressed, it may be the cause of his prolonged cough. Even if it's not causing the issue right now, it's not ideal and will cause issues down the road.

Go to an ENT they need to find out why.

Yesterday the room got a full Pesach cleaning. I vaccumed and washed the AC vents, washed down the walls and moldings, washed the linen. waddya know? he didn't cough at all in middle of the night and not first thing in the morning either but about half hour after waking up he coughed a more productive, wetter cough, not the dry cough he had the last few weeks and that's it. No more coughing since then. I'm stymied.

Maybe? but you got me interested in the mouth breathing. can a pediatric ent help with that? when dh went to an ent he was just told that he can't do anything for him cuz he's congested. gave him some anti-congestant, not like he helped him figure out why he's always a bit congested.

I have this feeling that ds (who looks exactly like his dad) is the same way, always slightly congested. Do I try to figure out what's causing the congestion and thus the mouth breathing? or do I try to figure out what's causing the mouth breathing and thus recurrent infection leading to constant congestion? tha'ts what I meant with the chicken-egg earlier in the thread.

An ENT may be helpful but most ENTs will not help you look for a root cause. At best they can help rule in/out frank structural issues and/or enlarged tonsils and adenoids. Your best bet is an airway informed orthodontist and a myofunctional therapist.

See above, Dr. Barry Raphael is amazing and he will refer you to a myofunctional therapist as well.

So really not cheap then, huh? Money is a factor but I gotta do right by my child. If anyone else has recommendations located nearby, I'd love to hear.

What’s the maalah of airway informed orthodontist vs regular orthodontist?

Don’t want to hijack the thread- but I see this comment often here and wondering what it means.

Thanks!

That’s concerning op. The combination of all
The mount related things in a short period of time. You need to get to a specialist asap.

I read up on his website, omg my ds is the perfect candidate!!! He checks so many boxes there, it's crazy. He's skinny, gives me a tough time with eating ever since he was born and I thought he'll outgrow it. Yes bh it's gotten better but I am still way busier with his food than I was with any other kid at the same age. Theres more but dont want to share all of it, but yeah he needs help.

Traditional orthodontics is basically focused on making crooked teeth straight.

Airway orthodontics sees crowded teeth as a symptom [of underdeveloped jaws] and focuses on correcting the causes of that, namely poor oral habits, so that the jaw can develop properly and fully on its own, with the goal being a wide open airway which is necessary for healthy sleep, healthy nervous system development and many other aspects of good health.
