Personally I’ve had experience with cysts and one of my siblings too, and ultrasound was enough, ever did an MRI. Can you ask them if it’s enough to monitor for a year to see if it grows from the outside (measurements change)? |
Thanks I’m new to this😂
Not sure how to fix but I think it fixed
Was the cyst inside the bone? The dr said if it’s inside the bone they can’t see that on ultrasound only MRI
They said they can keep an eye on it but they were more worried about my anxiety over anything |
I don’t think the cysts were inside the bone. Never heard of such a thing.

My 3.5 year old was recently diagnosed with seizures and the neurologist scheduled an MRI under anesthesia to check if there are specific reasons for the seizures and to check for abnormalities. If this wasn’t 100% recommended by Dr I probably wouldn’t do it UNLESS there were different concerns I was seeing that I wanted to check out.
And I’m a huge advocate for mother’s intuition.
I knew my child has seizures even when the first testing a full year earlier showed nothing. Only a year later, as an in-patient did they see the seizures.
However, there were many many other factors that pushed me to continue pushing for answers for her. Developmental delays, and several other signs that I personally felt weird about.
And hey, I have bad medical anxiety and I kept doubting whether there’s something wrong with me for running to Drs with her but in actuality I was just following my gut and I’m glad I did. She also had other issues including different medical issues, so with her I’ve never felt “in the clear”. Unfortunately now I feel less clear but I’m happy to have answers and a bit of a clearer path.
Is your daughter showing other signs besides for the physical bone structure abnormality? Is she meeting milestones as she should? Tell us more about her.

Wow thank you for sharing!!
That sounds like a lot!
You’re amazing for sticking with your mom intuition!
BH she’s meeting milestones normally she’s active and Bh friendly and a happy kiddo BH!!
She eats well bh but is quite skinny and used to be a chubby baby I started noticing the head shape as she thinned out from running around!
BH not underweight but just not super chubby anymore (dh is thin and tall too! And she has his same blood type)
Not sure this helps:)

If your child needs the mri, you can do it and know that it's something that's usually safe and worth the risk.
If the drs can't handle your anxiety and only suggested the mri to calm you down, please don't do that to your child!
And, as someone posted previously, there will always be something to worry about if your anxiety is that bad. Have you tried anti anxiety medications?

OP, I really, really think you should look into treating your anxiety before putting your child through unnecessary medical procedures. If she's meeting all her milestones and multiple doctors and specialists have told you not to worry, then what are you doing this for? To calm yourself down? As other people wrote, there will always be some medical thing you can be anxious about. Are you going to sign her up for exploratory abdominal surgery when she's five because she has a stomach ache?
I'm saying this with all the love in my heart. I also suffer from anxiety and it really sucks. But please, please, speak to a psychiatrist for yourself before unnecessarily putting your two year old under general anesthesia.

Did your doctors not suggest it right away but eventually did or are they saying outright that they don’t recommend it but will let you go through with it if you want? There is a big, big difference.
Just because they didn’t initially suggest it until you started asking more questions doesn’t mean you are “putting your child through an unnecessary medical procedure”.
An MRI is not an Xray, its a big deal and most doctors will not give you a prescription for it unless they think the patient could potentially benefit from it.
My toddler has a serious medical condition and needs frequent MRI imaging for years already and probably for the rest of her life.
It is NOT radiation and it is the safest imaging available to science.
Anesthesia always carries its risks but so does leaving a medical concern unaddressed.
Your child will be in a hospital, with the resources he needs if c”v something goes wrong.
If the doctors agree to do it and its a legitimate concern, go for it and daven it goes well and comes back clean.

Thank you for reassuring me.
I will definitely go for another opinion before doing the mri but I think I lost faith in drs and that’s why I don’t really trust their word
When they feel under attack they just agree and say ok test further!
So not sure if I convinced them or lost faith in them when they answer “I don’t know”
But thank you for sharing your experience

Question: Is this your oldest child?
If yes, do not do the MRI.

If she’s really meeting all milestones and doing well overall I don’t think I’d jump to MRI. Whenever I’m unsure if something is necessary or not really needed, I recommend asking the Dr if this was his child what would he do.
Of course make sure you’re seeing a Dr who is knowledgeable, if you need to be sure just call a medical referral agency to check with them. You can also call them to explain what you’re seeing on your child and you’re not sure if you should do the MRI.

How do I find a medical referral agency?

There a difference between mothers intuition (usually right) and mothers anxiety (usually wrong.)
You are considering taking a significant risk with your child's health because of your anxiety. Even if you don't do the procedure, obsessing over her health can cause her emotional damage.
You are not a bad mother but you clearly need more help with your anxiety. Please, get yourself more help before your child suffers for it.

Every time a toddler undergoes anesthesia, the brain is effected. It's not something to do just to ease your anxiety.
I would suggest that you address and treat your anxiety. Once it's under control, you can reevaluate from a place of logical rational thinking and decide then if this is still necessary.

Chaim medical resources: 1 (845) 492-8700
Refuah helpline: +1 (845) 782-2000
We’ve found both to be very helpful and knowledgeable
Best of luck!

I didn’t know it has long term effects.
I was scared to do too much research on it.
Is it any difference if I wait until she turns 3?
And just hope the drs know what they’re talking about when they say not to worry and just keep monitoring?
They did originally say they can check yearly and see if it changes.. but I was too worried and said let’s just check so we don’t need to wait until something gets worse cv

It sounds like you need to find a doctor you trust and ask them their opinion and go with it.

I also have medical anxiety. I do find that with kids there are so many scares and "what ifs" and "maybe"s that you could in theory test for. But it is part of a greater avodah of trusting Hashem, and trusting His shlichim, the doctors, and not doing crazy hishtadlus when the doctors don't deem it necessary. Even if and when this MRI comes back clean, there will always be another scare.
I have personally found medication helpful for the anxiety, and when it stopped being helpful, I upped the dose. I'm sending hugs because medical anxiety is soooo hard and the people around you just don't get it.

Op, if it’s your anxiety perhaps reach out for support with that. I have anxiety as well and it’s very difficult. You don’t want to put your child under an MRI just to ease your anxiety. That’s unfair to your child. I hope you have clarity soon.
