My toddler is getting an MRI
Dr didn’t necessarily say we need one but I was nervous about something so he sent us to a specialist who also didn’t think it was so worrisome but he said for my anxiety we should do MRI.
A few people are telling me we shouldn’t do it and worrying me more that she’ll be put to sleep etc
I’m worried about them finding something cv or finding something dangerous that they weren’t looking for..
Is there anything dangerous about having an MRI? Is it radiation?
Anyone have positive stories to share that they did an MRI and it came back perfect??
I have a lot of health anxiety so please no scary stories or anything to make me more worried.
Thank you!!

Just a warning two of my kids had one done and they found random abnormalities. Nothing to do with what we were checking for. They said many people walk around with growths and abnormalities and we never know. It’s nothing they are concerned about but it might be something that would cause you more anxiety.
Can you say what issue you are dealing with? Maybe we can help you figure out if it’s worth doing or not.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you want to know that some MRIs come back clean? Yes, I've had more than one MRI that came back bh all good. Or, is your concern about having your toddler put to sleep for the test? That I can't tell you about, but I would definitely think twice about doing that. Especially that your Dr and specialist both said it's not concerning.
However, as a parent, it's your job to keep your kids safe and if this is what you feel you need to do, then as long as your Dr is ok with it, do it so you have that peace of mind. Iyh it will all be good!

Is there a problem with doing the actual test or it’s more about being put to sleep?
Is being put to sleep dangerous or more the risks behind the meds?
I’m having lots of anxiety about it that’s why I just want to make sure it’s nothing!
One of her bones is sticking out a bit
So they’re checking for a cyst inside the bone..
The dr thinks it’s just normal not every bone is perfectly symmetrical

Interesting
What is the problem with those abnormalities? Did they need to do further testing?
Side of skull bone side of forehead one side is sticking out a bit more than the other
They think possibly a cyst or nothing just the shape of her head

If the doctor doesn't think it's necessary and only doing it to relieve your anxiety than I don't think you should do it. Maybe go for a second opinion and if two doctors say not to do it then do not do it. Instead try to see if you can handle your anxiety. Are you in therapy?

I’ve gone to 3 drs and a neurologist
They all said they don’t know what it is they said not to worry
The neurologist said he thinks shape of her head but when I started asking a bunch of questions he said ok so do MRI to make sure nothing inside her bone cuz he can’t see from an ultrasound
I’m in therapy
But it’s been going on for months and I keep thinking the worst case cv
I feel like if we do this test and it’s nothing I won’t worry about this in the future iyh

It’s small cysts on their brain so we need to check it didn’t grow or anything. They think it’s nothing but once you know it opens up a world of more tests and doctors. Is the bone sticking out in a very obvious way? Or more of a if you are being a perfectionist it’s not even? If it’s the first I’d likely want to know the second I don’t think it’s worth it.

Does your therapist agree that you would stop worrying about this if you do the test or is it just a rationalisation?
Asked with sympathy not judgement.

I mean in general anxiety definitely is there for a reason to keep us safe..
I just hate the unknown and something like this feels strange that there aren’t any obvious answers if the dr told me this is SOOO common we see this all the time don’t worry then I wouldn’t be worried
If that makes sense..!

The concern with getting an MRI at that age is the child would need medicine to go to sleep, anytime there’s anesthesia involved there is risk of the anesthesia itself.
I would treat the anxiety, from what I understand giving in to compulsions is never helpful long term.

The anesthesia is worse as a baby than an adult?
I’m just so worried to leave something if the drs don’t know if its normal or if it’s not
Like erasing it out of my brain won’t help either
I can’t just pretend to not see it and pretend it’s fine if the drs don’t know themselves.
I am going back to the Dr bezh to see maybe she’ll calm me down but as of now none of the drs were very reassuring.

Adults don’t need anesthesia they can stay still on their own.

Lots of babies have mri’s. Not a big deal as long as they are put to sleep and not just strapped down

MRI is not radiation it's magnetic. I don't think it's dangerous per se but I would be very hesitant to put a 2 year old to sleep if 3 doctors and a neurologist told you not to.
DS had an MRI when he was ten, they put him to sleep, and everything was fine- his MRI was totally clear BH. (MRI as general procedure to get approved for growth hormone, not because they suspected anything.)

Ok thanks so much for your reply!!
You think if it was an actual major issue the drs would know better than to just say not to worry??

I'm not a doctor but if you went to three different ones plus a neurologist and they all agree then I wouldn't worry.
