Sorry, swimming lessons are NOT a necessity.

Yes, kids need to know how to swim.

No, that does not need to mean parents paying $100/hr per kid during one of the most expensive times of year. There are other ways to do it.

Please don’t turn more things into needs. We have more than enough of those in our communities.

Do you know that drowning is currently one of the leading causes of death?! I am not saying everyone needs lessons till they can become a lifeguard but to achieve basic water safety is a extremely important skill and a mitzva.

Hi notshanarishona, I live in your city.
I think its a chutzpah for men to charge that much. It's insane.
I think your prices are expensive too, TO be honest.
This is not a wealthy community, and $100-200 per hour for a swimming lesson is a LOT. Most people don't have such amazing salaries.

Lol this is ridiculous. $200 an hour for swimming lessons?

I pay $20 for a half hour for semi private (2 kids) so that's $40 a half hour, $80 an hour.

What's so special about these teacher than they can charge more than double the rate?

It’s ok, I am open to feedback. 🙂
Just to be upfront of my costs, Swimming is very different than lets say tutoring because probably 40% of what I am charging goes to expenses. Just our electricity bill in the summer is something like $800 a month, then chlorine is around $100 a month, phone line with 3 extension is $100 a month, scheduling website is $20 a month, I pay $200 a year to have my site running, insurance $100 a month etc. I am paying a secretary to do all the scheduling and billing . I am really not raking it in.

And as far as all the bells and whistles, most of them we needed because of Ace and the other government programs we work with. People don’t realize how much time is involved when accepting programs. Sometimes it can take 15-20 minutes to get all required details on an invoice, and that’s not counting the times we had to make it two or three times.
For every one package of swimming lessons , it typically costs me about $25 in secretary time .
Right now we have a lot of extra expenses with our new pool, I hope once it’s finally finished and we pay off our debt to be able to do more group lessons at cheaper costs.
You can also message me privately through my site, I do offer scholarships for people who can’t afford it, just not during the summer.

I give swim lesson and I ent my pool. Most of rate cover the pool rental. Sometime I book a lesson ask lose a 3 hour pool rental for this 1/2 hour $100 lesson so I lose out giving s lessons I am bh very skilled with helping people get over trauma. I get a lot of girls ladies swimming on 1/2 lessons. So yeah I charge $100 for a 1/2 hour lesson. Next year we will charge more. A pool has never ending expenses. I am sure u know. I don’t feel bad at all. I would rather teach for free then get underpaid.

For those saying swimming lessons are not a need, actually I believe it is the Gemara that says there are 3 things a father must teach their son (and I was told it applies to daughters too in our modern times): learn Torah, a trade, and to swim. (I could be wrong about it being a gemara, I didn't learn it on the inside).

I was told this is about basic survival. Too many kids die from drowning. Same with Torah and income. As a people, we need to survive with our yiddishkeit and know the basics, being able to provide our basics to survive materially with food and rent, and to manage/survive known hazards.

And no, I don't teach swimming.
