I'm expecting my 3 year old to be celiac. His numbers are already high.

Refuah before the makah.. I have autoimmune diseases and have been gluten free (on and off) since 2019. So I'm okay cooking and I know how to read labels.

My kids eat real food and are used to it. Ie bh we're not a family that lives on pasta. Actually I never make pasta. We eat meat, veggies etc.

My house is very healthy and I have sourdough, spelt flour etc. But it's still all gluten...

The problem is my son is so little! He's starting school. He's also a huge nosher and craves sugar (I think it's related)

What about my other kids? (Age 7 and down) I do serve gluten!

I'm worried about my upcoming appt to confirm it and the drastic change it will have on our house.

And I can't control school..

Please give me your best advice...

It feels this way because you haven’t done it yet. I have a four year old with celiac that was diagnosed at 1. You just get used to it.

My child was diagnosed at 2.5 and currently 10 years old. I basically switched my kitchen to gluten free. I myself went off gluten in 2019 as well. Cooking, baking is gf only. The only gluten things I get for the rest of the fam is challah and some snacks.
I use all my old recipes using king Arthur 1:1 flour. Everything comes out delicious.
For school I used to match up the breakfast & lunch. Teachers were cooperative when I explained. Make sure to talk to the school and you can even have your doctor write a note explaining everything.
Good luck op, iyh everything will fall into place. There's so many options nowadays!

My child was 3 when he was diagnosed. You do just get used to it. You basically stop serving gluten at meals (besides bread/challah) and have a designated gluten snack box.
The rest of the house is gluten free.
You learn how to advocate for your child.
My childs teachers have always been amazing.
My child’s sugar cravings disappeared when he went off gluten.
He still likes candy but he doesn’t crave sugar all day anymore.
Good luck!

Things like - baguettes for a quick Sunday lunch, waffles... snacks...

Actually maybe I'm secretly happy I have an excuse to make my whole family eat healthier lol

But I've definitely gotten lazy and it's so easy to just hand them grilled cheese sandwiches in the car!

I have a toddler who’s gluten free.

We have tons of gluten free snacks in the house (corn chips, potato chips, gf pretzels, veggie straws, popcorn, bamba, even gf candy for treats).

I bake gf cookies etc in bulk and freeze to take out as needed.

Dinner is basically gluten free or gluten on the side (chicken and rice, tacos, burgers with two different bun choices, fish with rice or mashed potatoes).

My older kids do eat gluten, but I try to restrict it to things I have safe varieties of.

There are gluten free options for all of these. OK except maybe baguettes. But we get delicious gf bread and bagels from canyon bakehouse. Wraps from "pas nisht". Lots of gf waffle and pancake mixes, and even healthy whole food ones like from simple mills or Rorie's.

Quinn pretzels are awesome, especially the peanut butter nuggets.

You can get GF for all those things. GF baguettes, waffles, snacks, bread for grilled cheese. If I'm making grilled cheese I grill the GF one first and then the non gf ones after that in the same pan so I'm not even using 2 separate pans. I used to make GF pasta for everyone when we started our GF journey but eventually stopped that and give regular pasta to everyone else so for that you do have to use 2 pots but I don't find it hard. The smaller pot is always the GF one and the bigger one is always the regular one so I don't confuse the 2 because the GF is for one person so it makes sense that one always gets the smaller pot. For baking I bake completely GF using 1:1 flour blends like Bob's or Authentic and everything tastes like regular. For Shabbos I make challah using molino flour which is hamotzi because it's make from actual wheat (deglutinated) just for that kid, and bought challah for everyone else. There really is a substitute for everything. Hatzlacha!!

Sorry for diverting the conversation, but what were the symptoms and how did you test? My 3 year old has been having lots of diarrhea, stomach pain and nausea. The doctor didn't take my concerns seriously as dd is not losing weight.

Also his face is puffy and swollen, and he has a potbelly (not abnormal but it may be more swollen due to this)

You need to separate the health conscious part of you and your kids celiac.
Many GF options are very processed but still preferable to someone with celiac.
You can still make grilled cheese sandwiches just use GF bread.

BH you discovered it early on! My sibling was diagnosed in young 20s and suffered so much for many years, not realizing what the issue was.
You can do this, op! Once you get into the swing of things, you'll be fine. BH there are so many gf products and so much more awareness today.
