How do you clean the crockpot if you don't use a bag?
I don't think it's healthy to eat food that has cooked in a plastic liner for hours, but when we don't use it, it's really hard to clean.

The chulent gets really hard and crusty and baked on the sides. Any tricks to get it clean?

The best tip I can give is not to let it sit out for too long on shabbos day. Once you empty the crockpot into your serving dish, immediately fill it with water and soap and let it sit until motzei shabbos. It's much easier to get the grime out if you pour water and soup in while it's still fresh.

I pour the leftover boiling water from the shabbos urn into the crockpot. Add a bit of fairy liquid or cif cream cleaner. Put the lid on. Leave it for a couple of hours or preferably overnight. All comes off!

I also don't like the idea of crockpot liners but they are probably safe or they wouldn't be on the market. I fill my crockpot with hot water after Shabbos and turn the crockpot on high for a couple of hours. After it cools down I wash it and find that it cleans up very easily.

Put down a large sheet of natural parchment paper on the bottom of the crockpot (covering the bottom and coming up the sides) before making your cholent.

Do you spray the crockpot?

I spray Pam or just oil all the edges before I make my cholent and cleaning on motzaibshabbos is literally less than two minutes!

They make a silicon reusable crock pot liner. Would you be comfortable using that instead?

Ask your LOR but I read in a shabbos halachos book that this is not allowed, as it is preparing for after shabbos

You can also use a spoon of baking soda or some vinegar with boiling hot water and just let that sit for at least 30 min. It makes it so much easier.

Lots of things on the market are far from safe.

Cigarettes are on the market and they are known to be very unsafe. I'm not sure that argument holds.

First thing Motzei Shabbes take out the chulent from the crock pot, pour in some dish soap inside the pot, fill up to the brim with hot water and let it soak overnight. Sunday morning you’ll be able to clean it out much easier
