What do you do in your house?

Do you have special ones for kitchen? Bathroom? General?
Different colors and patterns? Store and wash separately?
But wiping something from the kitchen floor is different than wiping a spill on the counter or table...
(Personally, I never liked using the sponge from dishes to wash counter and table, though I know many people do. I feel like spreads a lot of germs and dirt. And I do use paper towels, but would rather not use so many a week.)
Or… do you just wash all shmattes together with hot water and maybe bleach and it doesn't matter what you use them for??
Interested in hearing ideas.

I wash all together. But I also don’t use rags on the kitchen counter I only use paper towels for sanitary reasons.

I have separate ones for kitchen table and counters, which I wash with the towel load.

I use shmattas for any spills or scrubbing. They get washed in hot water. If they didn't come out clean after,. I wouldn't use them again for anything! But they're clean after they're washed, so what does it matter if I cleaned up a spill on the floor last week, and now I'm wiping the counter?

Do you think your washing machine doesn't clean well?

I use cut up old sheets and cotton clothing. Small pieces like short sleeves, pockets and collars for small use-and-toss jobs, bigger pieces for dusting and polishing. These are machine washed in their own load in hot water and bleach unless I decide they're too gross, in which case they're discarded. Washcloths for kitchen surfaces get washed with other linens. I use a dedicated sponge for the toilet that gets rinsed by hand until it has to be discarded. ETA Dishes get their own dedicated sponges, too, of course.
