What is your budget?
Jewlery / costume jewlery.
A sefer (but if she is sensitive don't get one on parenting or midos that could look like a "hint" maybe something on Parsha?)
Certificate for dinner out and free babysitting so she can go with your ds
If you guys are close, a lunch out with you (I would enjoy this with my MIL)
A kitchen gaget / extra blender for milchig or something like that.
My IL give all their children / IL a set money amount each year (and the grandchildren a different set amount) to avoid the yearly dilema, but I think a gift is very nice!

The gift certificate for dinner out and babysitting for the kids is a great idea, RachelEve14. I'd love to receive that as a gift.
OP, it really depends on your budget and the kinds of things that your daughter-in-law likes. A gift certificate is always nice because then you can choose something of your own taste.

I much appreciated the gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure from my in-laws on my last birthday.

Hmmm. My MIL didn't give anything to me for my birthday. I wonder why that is? Yes, I know now. But that's off topic. It's so nice of you to think of your dil. Maybe a gift certificate to a clothing store that you know she likes. Also, if she has wanted some sort of repair or addition to their home (not too expensive or maybe team up with your ds) that's nice too.

As a daugher in law that just got married, I can tell you from experience what not to get. My mil wanted to get me a gift something usefull for the kitchen, she didnt know what I had or didnt have so she asked dh. Of course he asked me if I had a food prossesor, I did. The next question was a blender. I didnt have one but I told him I dont need it cause I hate washing big stuff. He repeated it to my mil and of course that was what I got. It is still closed in the box never used half a year later. She did get me recently an electric sifter and I LOVE it.
If u want ur dil to enjoy what you give her, give her something shell like, not something she says shell never use.

I agree that it really depends on your budget and your dil's personality, what she likes, dislikes, etc.
A pricey gift, but one I would love is a membership to a gym (or a good exercise machine) or a cleaning lady....just want to make sure it's not a personal thing though to offer to get those things.
Another idea is give your husband the money and have him buy her something.
A book is always a nice thing.
A gift certificate is a nice thing, but if you know her tastes well enough, new clothing, book chosen by you is nice...but most people don't have the knack for buying hte right thing for others (except my mother in law buys me the best clothing!!!)
manicure/pedicure is always a nice thing....but some people may not enjoy that. or a massage....you guys could do it together...that sounds like a nice present.
so, you have to be a good mother in law and find out who your daughter in law is :-)!!!

Something she would really like but never dare get herself.
If she won't be offended, a gift certificate to a high class store.
Or go with her and choose a piece of jewelry, that way you can also learn her taste. Don't show her what YOU like, see what she likes.
Same with books...go with her and learn more about her that way.

amother, to wash the blender just put soap and water in and blend it. easy as pie, now go open that blender!
