Yes you're not supposed to eat poppy seeds before a drug test as it can lead to a false positive.

Yes I knew. I avoid anything with Poppy seeds in my ninth month. There was an article a few years in the ami or mishpacha about a woman in labor who they found "drugs" in her bloodwork. It took her a few hours to convince them that it came from a Poppy seed topped bagel she had eaten a few hours prior.

Shoutout to Etka Gitel Schwartz (where are you???) for teaching me that it’s illegal to bury a poppy seed bagel for this reason in some state or another.

My friend wasn't given her baby after birth because she ate poppy cake and went into labor that day. It took a lot of askanim to convince the hospital staff....

It won't make you high but can show up in toxicology results as opioids.
Unwashed poppy seeds can be cooked to make a heroin like substance... this isn't a new thing.
Where do you think poppy seeds come from?!

Some countries actually ban poppy seeds entirely.

Alarmists, unite! Apple seeds contain cyanide!
Of course, whether your poison is opium or cyanide, it's there in trace quantities detectable only by a highly sensitive analytical instrument. Long before the chemical could have any effect on you, your gut would burst from the sheer volume you would have to consume at one time.
