I just had real sticker shock at the mechanic today.

Went for a routine oil change for my minivan. Put in synthetic oil.

Total bill was $86.22

I’m pretty sure I was paying around $60 not that long ago.

Is this the regular rate now? Was I overcharged?

For those interested, the breakdown was:
52.73 for the oil
20.00 for labor
3.99 waste oil disposal fee
7.50 new oil filter
8.13 shop supplies
-10 coupon discount
+tax

That's on the higher end but not crazy. My last oil change was $75+tax from one of the mobile companies. I think synthetic would've cost more

Yes same. Synthetic oil costs more but lasts longer. We buy the oil ourselves and it's cheaper that way.

Okay thanks all.

I guess I just don’t remember how much I usually pay.

Glad I wasn’t ripped off, as I tried out a new place.

Smooth oil charges $90 but they come to you so it's definitely worth the extra few dollars

Update: So I needed another oil change. Went with Smooth Mobile Oil that was recommended here and the total came out to $107! Synthetic oil change for an Odyssey.

It was definitely convenient, but it was definitely a few dollars more than I want to spend...

Where do you get oil changes, how much do you pay? And how quick does it take?

You got ripped off. I’m sure this wasn’t a frum mechanic, was it? We pay a lot less for our SUV’s.

We go to the one on 2nd street. Quick lube? They have fair prices and the 7th is free.

This shop recently was bought by a frum jew. He then tried telling me my tires were no good and I shouldn't even be driving like that and the shop can replace them all right now.

Called my husband and he said no way. And he checked my tires later and they were totally fine. Worn somewhat but no way do they need to get replaced asap.

Needless to say, never going back there even though location is so convenient for me.

Are you sure your tires are in fact good? My relative didn’t realize a couple of her tires were almost bald and she had a bad accident…

Qualicare is $62 plus tax came about to low 70s. They were the cheapest of the ones I priced around - express, smooth, Luber. Also they’re open really late which could be helpful for ppl. I ended up going when I took my ds to the dr and it was a great outing for him (and I had to kill time lol).
I was tempted to spend a few more dollars and have someone come to me but this time this worked out well.

ETA also a sienna, synthetic oil.
