My child attends a private not Jewish school specifically for kids with dyslexia. It’s in Ohio and there are other frum kids in the school. There is a summer program but it sounds like you need more the just a summer program. Not sure what’s available near you.

There’s one for Baltimore kids too.

Dealing with the same thing and I would love to do a program or tutor but it so so expensive. How do people pay for this?

You specifically wrote 'big picture evaluation' that's why I broke down types of reading issues. There's a place I think it's called Davos in Williamsburg that does one week intense reading help and it's specifically for dyslexia. I don't have experience with it though.

Also if you want to just pick my brain I'm still happy for you to reach out. Happy to give you my time for free.

Thank you! I really appreciate your offer.

I have a son the same age that really really really struggled with reading in pre1a and at his yearly meeting with his teachers and case manager last month his reading was his strongest area. There is a lot of help out there. If it were not for his school he would have fallen off the cliff.

For my son, the resource teachers in his school use Wilson Fundations and IMSE. We also treated him for ADD and he got OT for sensory issues and anxiety. I found the year he made the most progress was when the school SLP was his reading group teacher. She had a combined expertise in the language area and the reading that just really worked for him.

Being totally honest here, if your school is not going to support her and you cant change your going to have a much harder time helping her. If you cant read by 4th grade, when school gets a lot more academic I dont know how much outside tutoring on its own can help.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm so happy things worked out for you.
School is definitely willing to work with us if I tell them what to do. They are a typical big mainstream Lakewood school, and DD is not their biggest problem BH. They have very few resources.

It is insane. DH and I have taken on extra jobs to pay for this. It is really hard...but maybe let's put this in a spinoff so as not to derail...I can use as many recommendations as I can get Smile

Thanks for everyone's replies! I'm hearing from you that Wilson is the way to go. Any additional information about this method? Also if it DIDN'T work for you, please share!

you just do its super expensive but something we just keep in our budget for for the last 5 1/2 years I was not having cleaning help for a while for this. it definitely helped us. I can't imagine how much more behind we would be without this but we're at the point where it's just not enough. for some kids if private Reading help works after school that's amazing.

One finding the right person that connects with your kid is important the second thing is it's not always that it doesn't work it's just 45 minutes twice a week is just not always enough. That's when you have to look into full day program
Also did you have a neuropsych done?

My cleaning help is my sanity, I pay $54 a week, wouldn’t even cover one day of tutoring

Reading delays can sometimes be a life long challenge. There is no magic cure.

Have you tried Torah for Children’s Kriah Evaluation to help pinpoint where the kriah difficulty may be?
Torah4children.com/evaluation

* It must be done on a desktop. It does not work on a mobile device.

You can call the number on their website for a private evaluation.

Hi,
I am a reading dyslexic specialist. Usually with students that had unsuccessful remediation it is because the lessons were not science/data-based and structured. Also, sometimes the student and teacher relationship isn't the best match so the student cannot absorb what is being taught. Your daughter needs a thorough assessment and then a program that will fill in the deficits.
I did not asses your daughter so I do not know what would work for her.
She might benefit from starting out using the LIPS Lindamoodbell and then going to Wilson for the Intensive Reader.
Maybe also some of the DAVIS method.
I personally like to take different programs and mix it based on the students learning style & need. PM me if you have a specific question
LOADS OF LUCK!! YOUR DAUGHTER WILL READ IYH!!

Its hard to say. We've pretty much given up on kriah for now until English is in a better place.

The Seder Kriah day school edition by Torah4children.com has helped numerous children with dyslexia learn how to read Hebrew.

Take the evaluation I posted earlier and that will guide which level/book the child is up to.

I'm a reading specialist, specializing in dyslexia.
I am trained in Orton Gillingham, Wilson, LiPS and Davis. It's not a one size fits all. Every child responds to different methodology. I don't want to post under my screen name, but if you do I can pm you and try to guide you. Depending on her profile, I can hopefully stare you in the right direction.
