Some things are location-specific, but the OP may not realize that. I once got a rude response to a post asking for info on a topic that I didn't know much about, including the fact that it was (apparently) specific to NY. If someone is asking about house prices without specifying the area, then maybe it's a bit extreme to suggest that they don't realize housing prices differ by area...but there is a middle ground where people don't realize it's location dependent.

Actually, tri-state refers to NY, NJ, and CT. It's not a frum expression.

Right! And in the midwest, it refers to IL, WI, IN.

I just googled, tri-state can also refer to IN, KY, and IL. And there are more.

In the frum NY world, tri-state means Monsey, Brooklyn, and Lakewood.

This happens all the time on my Facebook groups. People assume most people are from where most people are from.

This happens with ads in frum publications also. As if the binah or yated are a local neighborhood magazine.

Why do so many Imas from the USA act as if the USA, or even their little town in the USA (Lakewood, I'm looking at you) was the center of the world?

they post questions without specifying locations, as if it was logical that it could only be in their neck of the woods.

They treat other users as if the were automatically from the USA.

Isn't it very provincial to believe that your place is the center of the world?
Yes.

You don't live in the US yet you comment on American politics all the time and nobody says you can't.

Are you an an American citizen who lives abroad?

Two can play at this game. Just live and let live. People can comment and ask questions. It is really snobby to call huge swaths of people provincial.

As an admin the most common one I had to ask to add location was Chicago. Interesting enough.

I'm not calling anyone provincial.

My definition of provincial is:

You live in your little neck of the woods, where you feel like you are the king, so you ignore that rest of the world exists.

You seem a tad bitter. Are you okay?

why take offense when none meant?
the US is the largest population by far
and the most powerful country
fact and fact

while surely not your intent this is a divisive post
pointing fingers at others
why not just gently post when pertinent that you aren to in the US etc
you might want to ask yourself why this is such a trigger for you why does this hit such a nerve for you....

My answer - if the question is about kollel, Lakewood has the biggest kollel - by far - in the US. And a town of approximately 130k people as of two years ago (probably more at this point, especially if you include the surrounding towns).

So if your question is - how do people manage in kollel? I will answer how a Lakewood family manages because the odds are (percentage wise) that they are actually living in Lakewood.
