My neighbor often leaves her 8 year old daughter to babysit, and she sometimes asks my 10 year old if she can go play with/help her daughter babysit.
I've never allowed this as I don't think it's the responsible thing to do, though DH thinks that we can maybe allow it for a short time.
Would you allow it? Or is it irresponsible?

I wouldnt leave an 8 yr old babysitting. Most I'd do is leave her home for a few minutes while I go down for a bus.

I wouldn't be ok with it. That's very young.

Too young.
My oldest is 11 and I trust him to stay home alone but not babysit multiple younger siblings for an hour+
An 8 yr old?!

What are the ages btw of the kid/kids being watched?
I personally also think it's too young though irrespective unless for just a few minutes.

No way. The earliest I left my kids alone at home watching younger kids was 11. And at neighbors was 13. 8 is crazy.

Nope. Not ok. I allow alone, responsible for themselves for a little bit at 8, but not responsible for younger siblings at that age. Nope, too young for that level of responsibility.

The youngest I allowed was ten. And not with a toddler.

Recently my neighbors daughter (9) was watching her baby (2). There was a teenage boy on a very busy road that found the child and didn't know what to do with the baby so he just stood there watching her until someone found her.

Ouch that’s way too young! Technically any age is too young for an 8 year old. Ch”v in an emergency the 8 year old would most probably have zero responsibility to a 2&4 year old and may themselves hide under the bed in case of a fire etc.

Absolutely not, 8 is way too young. I would let a 10 year old babysit for one kid for maybe 15 minutes while I run an errand.

Wow. That’s not regular.
Yesterday I left my 7 year old and his friend by the curb of a parking lot for less 2 minutes with 2 younger kids (toddler was strapped in stroller) while I went to pull out my car because there was no space to buckle the kids in without pulling my car out. It’s a very tight parking lot. I honestly felt that was irresponsible even though they were in my eyesight the entire time and they stood nicely and waited for me to bring my car up.
That’s the most I’d do.
