I've been a secretary for someone for approx. 2.5 yrs.
The wage had stayed the same, at the end of Oct my contract finished so she told me to adjust anything I want and give it to her to check and we will resign for the new year, until then the old contract will continue.
I wanted to ask for a raise but just didn't have the guts so didn't do anything with the contract, any time I sat to do it I thought it wasn't good time to ask etc. (my boss has already twice risen her 'hourly rate' with her clients since I've started working and is on the higher end of her expertise)

Beginning of this week I decided to just do it. I told her before we sign the contract I want to discuss a raise, I said I wasn't comfortable asking so took time. We arranged a time to talk the beginning of next week....

Every single day since I asked, something has gone wrong. some may be my fault but some were definitely a 3rd party but the way its done looks bad for me. EVERY SINGLE DAY THIS WEEK.

I just want to cry. I have never had this whilst working but know? specifically this week???

I'm not even sure why I'm posting here (I hope she isn't on here Confused )

Make a list of all your past accomplishments to being up at the meeting. Show things like: you got things done before deadline, did work above your pay grade, anticipated your employer's needs before you had to be told, caught on quickly to new tasks and procedures, made the place more efficient (e.g. reorganized files, rearranged workflow, learned computer shortcuts, taught shortcuts to other staff), saved someone's assets by catching a mistake...don't be afraid to toot your own horn, because no one will do it for you. This is not the time to be humble. G'luck!

And start off by acknowledging what happened

"How ironic this past week was a disaster because I've actually looked through my files and notes and here's what I found evidence of"

Memory is short. Make sure to highlight everything.

You've worked for her 2.5 years now, I'm assuming you've been an asset to the business long before this week.
Murphy's law dictates that something will usually go wrong in these instances. Chin up, it's not a reflection of your work and I'm sure your boss knows it.

I had this too!!

Scheduled a meeting with my boss for one day of the week to discuss a raise.
She cancelled on me last minute.
We rescheduled for four days later.
In those four days, I had a terrible run in with a client.
Problem was, my boss needs an HR manager, and all she did at the meeting was make me feel guilty about the run in, I never even got to explaining how or why I deserve a raise.

Not sure u want to hear this, but I am working very hard on my bitachon…
When speaking to your boss, keep in mind that ur speaking to hashem and she is just His puppet. U r asking Hashem for more money. He is the only one who can give u the raise that u want
